Update 6, 10pm 21/08

Our crews have completed the repair, and full pressure will be gradually restored over the next few hours.
To make the area safe overnight, it will be backfilled and fenced off and traffic management will remain in place until morning - but we will work to keep any disruption to traffic to a minimum.
Crews will be back onsite tomorrow morning to complete final work and we expect the area to be clear by early afternoon tomorrow, with full reinstatement to follow in the near future.
If your water supply was affected by the repair, please run a cold tap for a few minutes to clear any air or cloudy water from your pipes before using dishwashers, washing machines or hot water.
Thanks again for your patience while our crews completed this complex repair.

--------------------------------------------

Update 5, 5pm 21/8

To limit the disruption to peak hour traffic, crews will continue the repair after 7pm tonight.
We're pleased to advise that the risk of the shutdown widening this evening has reduced, but still encourage residents to store water. If a wider shutdown occurs, water tankers will be deployed to affected areas.
Due to the repair's complexity, we anticipate work to continue until later this evening, and service to be restored around midnight.
The areas that may be affected by low or no service are:
- Courtenay Place from Cambridge Tce to Allen St
- Pirie St from Austin St to Kent Tce
- Brougham St from Pirie St to Armour Ave
- Parts of Hataitai and Roseneath
We’ll continue to provide updates on the repair on our social channels. Thanks for your patience and understanding as we work to complete the repair.

--------------------------------------------

Update 4, 3pm 21/8

Work on Kent Terrace is continuing, and a repair is underway.
There is some uncertainty in whether or not the repair will be successful, and if it is not, the shutdown and low pressure area may widen to include a larger portion of the eastern CBD and may extend overnight.
To err on the side of caution, we would like to encourage residents to store water now.
If a wider shutdown occurs, we'll continue to keep the public informed and water tankers will be deployed to affected areas.
--------------------------------------------
Update 3, 1pm 21/8
Progress is being made on Kent Terrace, with crews reducing flow enough to excavate around the burst.
The pipe is now exposed (see the photo attached) however the flow remains very high. We'll work to isolate the pipe completely so the repair can be completed safely.
Customers in the below areas may notice a loss of supply or low water pressure. If you do, please advise the Wellington City Council customer contact team: wellington.govt.nz....
- Kent Terrace
- Cambridge Terrace
- Courtney Place
- Pirie Street
Customers in Mt Victoria, Roseneath and Hataitai at higher elevations may notice low water pressure or loss of service.
Due to the complexity of the repair, we expect full service to be restored late tonight or early tomorrow morning.
Thanks for your patience as our crews work at pace to complete this repair.
--------------------------------------------
Update 2, 8:10am 21/8
Crews are investigating reports of no service or low water pressure in higher areas of Roseneath. This may also affect areas of Mt Victoria.
We’ll provide more information as the investigation continues.
--------------------------------------------
Update 1, 7:40am 21/8
In the interest of public safety, the inside lane of Kent Terrace has been closed. To minimise delays, please use the Oriental Bay route to Wellington Airport if required.
Crews are working at pace to isolate the area and complete the repair, and have turned the water off. No customers should be affected - if you are experiencing a loss of service, please let us know.
Please see the map below for the approximate area affected.
If you have experienced any property damage from the burst, it's best to contact your insurer in the first instance, then report this to the Wellington City Council customer contact team: wellington.govt.nz...
--------------------------------------------
Kia ora Wellington,

A burst pipe has caused flooding on Kent Terrace, between Vivian Street and Buckle St (approximately).

Crews are onsite, and we're awaiting urgent traffic management so we can undertake the repair.

While we wait for traffic management, we're asking people to avoid the area if possible, and if not please expect delays. We appreciate that this is a main route, so are doing all we can to minimise impact on commuters.

At this stage, we don't expect a shutdown to affect any properties but will provide more information as the repair progresses.

It's a major repair and we expect it to take between 8 -10 hours.

We'll keep you updated on our social channels.
