"Here's a twofer for my 2022 list. A pied stilt/poaka (Himantopus leucocephalus) and a South Island pied oystercatcher/tōrea (Haematopus finschi) keeping each other company at Sandfly Bay in Dunedin as the Sun goes down. Showing you don't even need to be the same species to get along - they remind me of me and my husband - he's the skinny one dozing off while I'm talking. Birds #27 and #28 for 2022."

- Roget's thesaurus (have several but not sure what the plural of thesaurus is)
- Fowler's useful tome
- Brewer's dictionary of phrase & fable (quite old)
- Oxford companion to English lit, ed by Margaret Dabble
- dictionaries of English & NZ English
- world gazetteer
- NZ encyclopedia (quite old)
- Grammar of contemporary English (Quirk, Greenbaum & that other chap)
- and a couple of Pope's guides
Or does anyone know how to humanely offload old reference books? I fear the tip awaits these.

This year's award-winning Wasp Wipeout campaign is now underway and once again we're appealing to anyone who wishes to get involved with the campaign by volunteering their time to help lay bait in wasp-ravaged areas.

If spare time is a rarity - not to worry! This year’s Givealittle page is now live and we’re aiming to fundraise $25,000 for the Tasman Environment Trust. All money raised will go towards the purchase of bait and bait stations to continue and expand wasp control operations.

Find out more about this destructive pest by reading through our new interactive feature on Stuff which explores the tools we have in the fight to rid wasps from New Zealand for good.
