Mīharo Wonder exhibition:
Date: 26 February to 2 October 2021

What does the word ‘wonder’ — or ‘mīharo’ — mean to you? It could be something that evokes awe, fascination or curiosity; to make you think, speculate, meditate upon.
The ATL100 exhibition Mīharo Wonder will inspire you to do all of these.

‘The Archive is Alive Vol. 2’: Queer history workshop

Wellington Zinefest, LAGANZ and the National Library are teaming up to bring you the second rendition of our The Archive is Alive workshop, where participants will get together to create a zine exploring queer archiving and history in Aotearoa! This is a two-day workshop, held on Saturday, 13 March, 9am to 3pm and Sunday, 14 March, 10am to 3pm. The venue is still being confirmed for Sunday but will be in Wellington CBD.

Noel O’Hare will talk about the history of the School Dental Service (established in 1921) and the inferior conditions of low pay, a military style of management, and inadequate and antiquated equipment, endured for more than 50 years by the young women who worked as dental nurses in schools.

We recent featured a photo sent to us from Robina Davies who was trying to identify those in the picture from her mother's collection.
Her mother was Olive Whitelaw, who played cricket for Wellington Technical College Old Girls. She suspected it might be from before 1939.

Journalist and sports historian Ron Palenski has come up with a name for us.
"I'm pretty sure the pic is of Violet Aline Caton and Stuart Dick on their wedding day at All Saints', Kilbirnie, on Feb 26 1944.
The big clue was women in the uniform of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps presenting a bouquet of vegetables; another clue was that it was most likely a newspaper photo because of the quality.
Stuart Dick is wearing an RSA badge in the photo. He was a sergeant in the 25th Battalion."
He even attached a picture of the gravestone.
This could be a toughie but for a hint, it is one of Wellington's most well known buildings.
Very lite weight, almost weightless fabric. Size 10-12. A purpley grey pattern on fabric. Great for work or over jeans. Cab wear buttoned or open. Only worn twice. In great condition.
Beautiful mia label. Size 12. The drape of the fabric is gorgeous. Lite enough to sway but not too thin and floaty. Flattering cut against legs making them look long. The colour is a burnt redy orange, a bit darker than my camera will show. Last photo more true to colour than the others.
Navy blue huffer dress. Cotton, size 10. Loose fit. Super comfy in summer. Has cool shark prints across fabric with huffer logo.

They were wearing white and yellow Japanese fortune charms as in the photo (left) and were in a blue drawstring bag (right top). There is also a small tag “NativeZ Made in New Zealand” (right bottom) attached to them.
They have been with us for over 15 years since our first visit to NZ and have shared all the memories of our life in Aotearoa.

The dog shelter, which has been on site for 53 years, is getting an upgrade to its facilities and security systems, including new cages, self-contained kennels, a plumbing refurbishment, and improved security cameras installed.
The upgrades are estimated to cost $120K and be completed by the end of February.
