"I used to avoid posting photos where I had accidentally captured a nictitating membrane - I thought they looked like weird sausage-skin sideways eyelids. Then I read that they are amazing built-in bird goggles, so the bird can blink and still see, or even shutter their eyes in extreme conditions to protect their eyes while flying or diving. Apparently we used to have them too - the pink blob in the inner corner of our eyes is a vestigial membrane. I suppose we evolved out of needing them - still they might have been handy the other day when I was trying to take photos on the beach during a gale. Hi I am looking to buy an old classic mens mountain bike eg: Cannondale, Scott, Bauer, giant, trek etc. Medium/Large frame. It can be 20 years or older but in good condition. If you can help, for my brother who had his bike stolen 2 days ago. That would be appreciated.

I have a number of panes of glass to give away, some plain, some obscure. Could be good for a garden cold frame or glasshouse. Must be collected

I have an old Kelvinator Gentle Annie washing machine that is having problems - eg cold water not filling properly. Motor works, and m/c may be repairable. Free to a good home, but must be collected.

GBRAI received from WCC notification that due to ongoing sickness amongst the recycling contractors, there will be no glass collection this week in wider Kingston/Mornington/Brooklyn. So unless you want to take a trip to the recycling centre at the council run Southern Landfill, in the Landfill Precinct, best you store the glass until Wednesday 13th of July.
Joys of winter ills inflicted on our recycling services again unfortunately
"Kia ora,
We are writing to update you on our recycling collections - please share this information with your community and networks.
Unfortunately, our waste collection contractors are once again operating at reduced capacity due to COVID-19. As a result, glass collections will be put on hold from Monday 27 June for an estimated two weeks.
Rubbish and co-mingled recycling collections will be prioritised, but delays are likely.
For health and safety reasons, residents should bring their glass crates back inside off the street until normal service resumes. In the meantime, they can stockpile their glass or drop it off for free at the Recycling Station at the Southern Landfill. Otherwise, glass can be wrapped and put in general rubbish.
We apologise for this disruption and will be in touch again soon with another update.
For the latest updates on collections and rubbish and recycling processing, please visit our website.
Ngā mihi,
Waste Operation"
