Our Council funding is at risk. Council staff have rejected our application for continued 3-year funding and have recommended a one-off grant for 6 months during which time they want us to completely redefine our services. This combined with the Council signalling the loss of our CAB premises means our very existence in Wellington is threatened.
There is still time to change Wellington councils mind. Lobby the council by signing our petition.

If you are willing to share your story of how we helped you, make contact your local bureau so we can arrange to have you interviewed.

If we are not there, where will the 31,000 people we helped last year go?

This winter, reach way back to your neolithic roots with the Lōemis Winter Solstice Festival. Come and get crafty at the Central Library with two evenings of papier-mâché fun with FREE workshops run by local artists Zoe Higgins and Leda Farrow.

From 6-8pm on Wednesday June 6th, celebrate the installation of Seraphina and come along to Central for a FREE Mask Making Workshop lead by artist Zoe Higgins. On the ground floor in the YA area, enjoy an evening getting crafty and making your own papier-mâché mask that you can then wear to the winter solstice parade on June 21.

The following Wednesday (June 13th) at 6-8pm, try your hand at something different with a Silhouette Egg Lantern Workshop lead by artist Leda Farrow. The egg, a universal symbol of life will be an ancient and symbolic inspiration for your lantern which can then be used to light the way for Seraphina during the winter solstice parade.

All materials and paints will be included and provided. Registration is required, as there are a limited number of spaces available.

To register, please contact either the Library or Lōemis via email to enquiries@wcl.govt.nz or info@loemis.nz, via phone at 04 801 4040 or come and speak to a Librarian to reserve your place.

These events are suitable for people of all ages however children must be supervised by an adult.

Our latest ERO report describes " a culture that values, celebrates and affirms children." Wilton Playcentre placed at the highest possible ERO rating, and subsequently we have had our next visit from ERO set for 4 years time, versus the standard 2 year check ins. ERO felt particularly confident in our " children [whom] are purposefully engaged in learning and confidently make decisions about their involvement and participation." At Wilton Playcentre we are very attached to our surrounding native reserve, Otari-Wilton Bush, and ERO remarked on our "Indoor and outdoor spaces [which] encourage children to learn, investigate and develop their physical skills...[Children] are encouraged and nurtured to explore their surroundings." Finally, ERO had this to say about our people, "Wilton Playcentre members are a diverse group of enthusiastic parents and whanau who bring valuable skills and knowledge to their roles."

We invite you to take some time out and visit us. While our ERO report is a fantastic pat on the back for us, we know that the real proof is in the pudding. Our kids love their Playcentre, and we feel sure that yours will too.
