New members welcome!

If you are a parent or caregiver for children under 5, Wadestown Playgroup may be for you!

Playgroup provides unstructured play in a safe, secure environment and is an excellent forum for meeting others in the community. We have a wide range of toys and equipment (both indoor and outdoor) and activities including painting, craft, playdough and sandpit. We also arrange for regular educational visits by children’s entertainers such as the travelling farm or fire engine.

We are a parent run organisation. Each child attending must have a parent or caregiver stay with them, interacting in the play activities with their child. Playgroup relies on the parents and caregivers to run smoothly and all members are asked to contribute, which makes for a great atmosphere. We operate a roster system for duties on sessions and we also have a Management Committee of volunteers.

We have places for new members available on some days, email us to confirm: wadestownplaygroup@gmail.com

Please come along to check it out, just ask for the 'key contact person' and they can show you around, give you an enrolment form (or download one from this site) etc. Feel free to try out different days of the week.

If the answer is a 'no' or perhaps an initial 'yes' followed by an 'I've changed my mind', then who gets to keep the ring? And what are the consumer ins and outs of trying to get a refund on a diamond sparkler?

We're looking for individuals who are happy to share their story of a ring return: perhaps the break up was acrimonious and you've tried to cash in the ring yourself, or maybe your ex disappeared with the sparkler, never to be seen again. If you've got a story, please share it below (please add NFP if you don't want it used in print). And if you've got a really good story that'll take a little longer, please email kelly.dennett@stuff.co.nz.

Wanted: old carpet in specific pattern (or as near to as possible)

Thomas from Karori

I'm looking for some offcuts of patterned carpet to cover a hole left by a recent subtenant - does anyone have any spare pieces that match the carpet below, or at least in similar colours? Alternatively if anyone knows the name and/or maker of the design I would be glad to hear it. Thank you.

Hi neighbours,

Many people setting up paddling pools for their children this summer will be breaking the law - are you one of them?

Any pool, fixed or portable, deeper than 400mm is now subject to safety provisions under the Building Act, meaning there a quite a few rules you probably aren't even aware of.

For example, do you have a 1.2-metre fixed childproof fence with a self-closing gate opening outwards?

What are your thoughts on paddling pool safety? If faced with an inspection, would your pool set-up pass? Do you think all these rules are essential? What are your tips for setting up a paddling pool safely?

People have been handing out poorly written cards with the sign language alphabet in exchange for cash - but they have nothing to do with any deaf charities.

"We know that they've been in different parts of Wellington [and] Auckland," said Rachel Noble from Deaf Action New Zealand.

She says a similar scam happened in the 1990s, and legitimate groups almost ended up having to pay for the crime. Read more
