ACT leader David Seymour says 20 people could die each year using reusable bags.
"It's coming up to summer and people will be in a hot car with their chicken in a canvas bag ... and suddenly, you've got a real serious case for poor food hygiene."
Food safety expert Steve Flint said it was a valid concern. Read more here

* "Requested CE to report back to next STC on 5 Dec on pros and cons of splitting route #2 at Miramar vs extending #18 service to the Kilbirnie hub, including the likely service consequences for communities in Miramar/Miramar North and Seatoun/Broadway, and any implications for the #18E service". Route splitting the #2 service could provide a single-seat ride from Miramar North and Strathmore Park to the City, but may have implications for frequency of service.
* "Agreed to further develop a proposal for merging routes #12 and #14 and to consult with affected communities". This would have the advantage of further extending the previously agreed extension of #14 from Hataitai to Kilbirnie, to closer to Rongotai College. It would also provide a direct route from Strathmore Park across the city to Wilton.

We recently moved and our little black cat managed to get out and has gone missing from our new place in Mitchell St, between Hoover St and Colorado Grove. She is nervous and shy, not very traffic savvy, and will probably hide if she spots you, but if you see a strange cat in the area, on your property, in a shed or garage, please get in touch. We are very worried for her, especially with fireworks season upon us. She is microchipped, and called Zoe - she doesn’t have a collar. I don’t have any pictures that show her clearly, but here’s one with our other black and white cat, who is waiting patiently for her at home.
“If we hadn’t qualified for the state house, my life would have been quite different in terms of what I wanted to do with my sport, and especially my education.”
Quality, stable housing helps New Zealanders like Darcy fulfil their potential. Watch his story to find out more.

Unfortunately not every-one is going to be able to afford them. So did you know that there is a rates rebate that you can apply for? A lot of people think you have to be over 65 years old before you can apply but if your income tax is $25,180 or less and live in your own home you may be able to claim the full amount of $630. Exactly how much you get will depend on what your rates bill is, how many children or dependents you have and your income. The rebate is income tested so even if you earn more than this you may qualify for some assistance. If you want to know more pop into your local bureau and talk with the volunteers, we can also tell you about rates remission for first home builders and rates postponement if you are experiencing extreme financial hardship.

I have emailed a number of times to ask if the cinemas could be warmed up a little. Today I saw the film (Yellow is Forbidden, such a great film) however because it was SO COLD in the cinema I was quite distracted and while I wanted to be there to enjoy the film, part of me wanted to get of there because it was just TOO cold! The cinema provides a box of blankets for customers....so I assume they know it is cold in there.....If the owners don't want to pay for heating maybe they could reduce the ticket price....and simply say no heating so reduced prices....
