A good article about the current Wellington property market. Average asking prices for Wellington homes broke over $700,000 for the first time in June, data from website Realestate.co.nz shows.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Newtown club through the 2018/19 year including our outgoing District Officers Sarah Davy and Glen Pearce. It was lovely to see everyone join in the celebrations on Wednesday and look back at the last 12 months.
Newtown Toastmasters is now 2 years old and has been doing plenty of walking and talking! We've had Halloween and Xmas-themed meetings, we've hosted an Area Contest, as well as running community workshops to achieving milestone DTM's in the club! It's certainly been a roller coaster of a year! Let's keep the momentum going and start the 2019/20 new year with a bang! Our next meeting is Wed 10th July at the Centre! Hope to see you all there!

The initial securing of the site and removal of external asbestos soffit panels (under the roof line) has been completed.
We have assurances from WCC officers that the contractors will have strict traffic controls and vehicle management plans so as not to interrupt vehicle flows around the Brooklyn Bus Hub down Harrison St and entering Cleveland St. While there is likely to be heavy demolition waste (and tradespeople's) vehicles coming back and forth through the Brooklyn village, we do not expect huge numbers of vehicles in the grand scheme of things.
However demolition has now come to a halt and we have been informed that the demolition completion date has been pushed back several weeks. So August sometime now. We are not completely sure as to why there is a delay but do note the building has been sealed up (boards over windows) and actual demolition appears to be scheduled while Brooklyn School is "out" with July holidays. Curious timing. We will monitor with interest.

Yet it is not part of our school curriculum.
Some experts say that has to change. It is such an existential threat that not to make it a requirement to teach children about climate change is doing them a great disservice, they say.
