Following our removal of the health warning signs in Owhiro Bay, we would like to provide clarification on the condition of the Bay.

These signs were removed as per our protocols for the reopening of the beach. A source of the spike in contamination was identified and the sampling at the long term beach monitoring site had returned to normal.

We acknowledge that our communication could have been better as removing the warning signs implies that the Owhiro Stream, that crosses the beach, is safe for swimming in. Owhiro Stream, like many urban waterways, has a long history of contamination and is regularly unsafe for swimming in. Improving the quality of Owhiro Stream will require a coordinated and long term programme of works.

We have taken immediate action to correct the lack of information, and yesterday placed warning signs at the stream mouth at Owhiro Bay. Our operations team are preparing for continued investigations in the catchment to see if there is another fault or cross-connection that we can find and resolve.

Our waterways and all the fish and species that live in them are precious taonga, so we have set out to understand how they are valued and what should be done to provide the future we want for our water.

To me, this Whaitua project is a journey where we can apply our experience and values, and develop a vision that enhances the mana of the whenua, the tangata whenua and the whole community.
We need you to be part of our journey on the Whaitua Project. This is a journey to improve the health and mauri of our waterways, we need to fix our waste and stormwater network. These are big changes, and needs to reflect our communities’ views informed by good evidence and information.

As a result of our work in Willis Street, we have been working in Abel Smith, Cuba and Vivian Streets to perform maintenance work clearing out wastewater pipes.

The next stage of work in the area involves lifting a manhole and making some repairs, followed by flushing. In order to do this, we need to close a section of the Abel Smith and Cuba St intersections, highlighted on the map below.

This work will begin on Wednesday 5 February, and is expected to take 1 month to complete.

Access along Cuba St through this intersection is still available, however there will be no access into Cuba St from the Taranaki St entrance into Abel Smith St. Vehicles will be detoured down Wigan St onto Taranaki St and Right onto SH1 and Right onto Cuba.

The intersection will be on 24/7 traffic control signals. Please take care when travelling through the area, and follow the traffic signals, speed limits and detours.

Pedestrian access is still available throughout the work. Cyclists will have access past the site via footpath on the closure side, so will be able to dismount and make their way through site. Those that are using the "open" lanes will use the road as normal following the signals.

My name is Molly and I'm a 20 year old student who is going into my final year of my undergraduate degree at Victoria University this year! I have been looking for some babysitting jobs to fill up my not so busy next month before I go back to Uni. I have six years of experience with babysitting, starting out with neighbours and family friends before moving onto families I have found on sites like neighbourly! As it is, I can work days, afternoons, evenings and nights for the next month — I go back to University on the 2nd of March. However I can definitely still work after going back to uni, the occasional afternoon depending on my schedule, but I can definitely work evenings and weekends! I will say I do not have my full license so I wouldn't be able to drive the kids anywhere, but I am familiar with using buses and ubers if necessary! I live about a 5-10 minute walk from Karori Normal School so I can do pick ups if your place is within walking distance! I hope to be of help to any parents out there needing an extra hand! Please contact me on 0212718338 :)

Would anyone like to volunteer some time at my charity stall at the Newtown Festival? I'm looking for someone/people to do face painting.

We're also looking for donations of items to sell in order to fundraise for off the beaten track wildlife rescue centres in Australia.

One such item we're wanting raise money for is humidicrib for newborn animals which have been rescued from their dead mother's pouch. These cost $2500 EACH.
