In neighbourhoods across New Zealand, kids are looking forward to a Christmas that may not happen.

Forced to choose between food or bills, hard-working parents like Melody worry whether they’ll be able to provide even the simplest Christmas meal for their children.

“I’ll only eat dinner 2-3 times a week so that the children have enough food. This is very stressful… a lot of crying and minimal sleep.”

Food insecurity is the everyday reality for 98.8% of the families Variety helps.

Please donate today to provide grocery support for families like Melody’s this Christmas.

Join us for a bit of fresh air and the perfect excuse to spend the day admiring beautiful scenery.
We will work on location as many days as the weather permits. We have the studio as a backup plan or cool indoor spots like the Begonia House.

This series of holiday workshops will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 4pm. Jan. 11, 13, 18, 20, 25 and 27.

Each workshop we will warm up with some sketching and drawing techniques and afterwards we’ll get the paints out and go for it with watercolour, (although you are welcome to work in your preferred medium).

There are six workshops in total and registration is flexible. Choose whichever dates suit your schedule. No need to choose consecutive weeks or the same days and no need to attend every session.

We will meet in the studio at 10am for a meet up and a quick cuppa and then travel to our location. In some cases, we will just meet up at the location.

Beginners and all levels of experience are welcome.

Under 16s welcome accompanied by an adult.

Get in touch and join us for some fun.

It's back! Our Combined Churches Community Nativity Play is on again in Karori Park on Christmas Eve at 6pm 👼

This is a free family gathering where we encourage the children to come dressed as a character in the Christmas story and share in the play. 🐑 We always aim to hold the event outside in front of the Karori Park Café but can move to St Ninians church if the weather is not good.

Bring your whanau, fish and chips, mats, or picnic chairs to sit on and enjoy the spirit of Community celebration in the park. Please wear your masks, scan the QR code and keep the distancing. See you all there!

Stuff Ltd's recent support for Age Concern Wellington Region's Christmas appeal has been invaluable:

"Age Concern also experienced a burst of new interest and donations after we wrote about Rick Johnston and Denis White, who have been buddied up through Age Concern's visiting service. Johnston takes 82-year-old White out to lunch or to Mitre 10, or works in his backyard.
'But the best outcome has been the 35 volunteers signing up to help deliver social connection services to older people in our communities,” said Stephen Opie, chief executive of Age Concern Wellington. “We’re always needing more volunteers, so this has been a great response for us.'"
