In the event of a major earthquake, the pipes underground that bring drinking water to, and take wastewater from your home, could be broken.

This means you will be relying on the stored water you have at home for at least the first seven days following an earthquake. And you'll need a plan for the safe disposal of your wastewater.

Brooklyn Bus Hub and negative impact on Brooklyn businesses

The Greater Brooklyn Residents Association Inc (GBRAI) hope you have had a good 2018 and looking forward to a better 2019. We have had our "moments", battles and some successes this year. We hope for more next year.

Some of our successes this year - amalgamation with Kington RA; a new and revised Constitution being implemented; getting road markings installed in and around the Brooklyn village to get some better & safer parking practices established; getting a disabled carpark being re-established in the village. As well, in conjunction with local Kowhai Park/west Brooklyn residents (huge acknowledgement to your activism and vocal dissent) and the Brooklyn School we all successfully got the 17e (8.25am) bus rerouted back through the village to drop off primary/intermediate age school children into the Brooklyn village for safe access to school (Metlink had make it an express bus and was going straight into the CBD) rather than the first bus stop that the express would stop at - a crazy place on the very busy Ohiro Rd where there was no pedestrian crossing. Activism and some common sense form Metlink and GWRC making another success.

As well, we (and some local business owners) got the re-establishment of a P15 carpark on Cleveland St to assist businesses & and locals and residents access some of our local businesses services after the implementation of the new bus services / bus stops has created months of traffic disruption, confusion, vehicle snarl ups and a huge impact on both locals and the local businesses. As well, these bus stops have taken a number of car parks out of the Brooklyn village.

A major ongoing issue for GBRAI and the local business community in Brooklyn has been the disorganised and complicated establishment of the Brooklyn Library Bus Hub and the quite negative affect on businesses through - in some instances - a substantial loss of business.

For the public record, we are making public our survey of local businesses and affects of the new bus hub on Brooklyn businesses.

Instead of doing something for herself this New Year (and struggling to keep the resolution), Ingrid is signing up to The Foodbank Project to donate a Small Family Bundle each month because it's a resolution she knows she can keep. Watch Ingrid's video here: www.facebook.com...

Hi there,

I’m a new speech and drama teacher in Wellington and I’m looking for some students for 2019. I’m an Associate of Trinity College London and teach all ages, 5 and up, in both private and group settings. I am three quarters of my way through my Licentiate diploma and I would love some students to help me finish it off.

Speech and drama is excellent for helping to build confidence, improving literacy skills and I can even help with certain speech issues. I teach adaptable lessons that can be more drama focused or that lean more into the presenting and speaking side of things.

If you're interested or know someone that might be contact me at eminardsblack@gmail.com or 027 255 2436. Thanks!
