Our waterways and all … View moreKia ora koutou, I am Wayne Guppy, mayor Upper Hutt City Council, and a member of the Whaitua Te Whanganui-a-Tara Committee tasked with making recommendations to Greater Wellington Regional Council on the future of our coastal and freshwater quality, and how our water is used. Our waterways and all the fish and species that live in them are precious taonga, so we have set out to understand how they are valued and what should be done to provide the future we want for our water.
The importance of the environment, Hutt River and our waterways are important to me and critical to the well-being of current and future generations. We are looking forward to working with you to maintain and improve the quality of the water in our catchments. We need to fix our waste and stormwater infrastructure with population growth putting more pressure on our pipe networks. I need your help to find solutions that are equitable and fair.

We received today the following email from WCC Waste Operations in regards to the future (and planning) of the main tip / Carey's Gulley Southern Landfill in south Wellington. The decision has been made to extend its life (some 20 years). We encourage you to attend. Please see below:

You’re invited to come along to our next round of drop-in sessions on the proposed extension of the Southern Landfill.
Where we are at
· Alternatives have been investigated and the option for the immediate future has been determined – extending the Landfill.
· Technical studies to assist with the design are being finalised.
· A draft concept design for the extension is being developed.
Next steps
We’re hosting public drop-in sessions in March. Come along and have a look at a concept design for the extension and find out about next steps.

Our Bridge Lessons are about to start next week and learn the greatest card game in the world! Tennis legend Martina Navaratilova and winner of 59 Grand Slam titles. This 12-lesson course is running over a period of 7 weeks which includes lots of card play and comprehensive course notes. The two-hour lessons are held twice weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays and finish on 6 April 2020. The 12 lessons cost of $60 will be deducted from your membership fee to 31 May 2021 when you join the club.
