On Tuesday the Stage Challenge Foundation said they had emailed teachers and sponsors to say the annual competition could not go ahead as they couldn't afford to continue.

Whangarei Boys High School principal Karen Gilbert- Smith says the news came as a shock. The school won the Northland regional competition at Forum North last June with their performance.
