However, before you agree there are factors you should seriously consider:
Will the tenant require something in return? Will they request a reduction in rent or some other kind of compensation for their efforts?
Do they have the required skills to do a good job? For example, re-painting a room may sound simple, but the reality is different and a good job requires a significant amount of preparation and skill (ever tried cutting in along ceilings, mouldings and other areas that require a perfectly straight line of paint?)
Could they do more damage than good? Do you really need to call in a professional to deal with the issue. If it's anything to do with electrics or plumbing, the answer is definitely yes!
If you are supplying the materials, and the job is substandard will it end up costing you?
Have you considered the implications if the tenant injures themselves while attempting repairs?
What if the tenant asks for compensation for their work at the end of the tenancy?
Always proceed with caution, and ask your property manager if you have any questions or concerns.

Then the steel ground away the soft aluminium track below every time it got dragged open and shut for months.
Replacing rollers is a straightforward and quick job.
Replacing a worn out track is much more tricky and expensive.
So the next time you've got the vacuum out - run it over your sliding door track to remove dust & debris and keep those rollers clean. It's easy to do and you'll save yourself money.

David Elliot: Pigs, Penguins and Polecats. The Ashburton Art Gallery houses the growing collection of author/illustrator David Elliot's drawings. See a selection of some of the artists favourite animal explorations in his new exhibition. Runs until November 12.

So, I'm after ideas for things to put on my list of 45 things to achieve by the time I'm 45.
A couple of qualifiers: I'm not into adrenaline, so no jumping out of planes or off bridges. And they need to be things that I can do, and things that any normal person with normal resources would be able to achieve - no flying rockets into outer space or anything.
So far I've got:
1. Play a round of golf
2. Compete in a sport
3. Smash NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)
4. Read 'The Bone People' (again)
I'll be setting up a blog and tracking progress online and in print, so come at me with your best ideas - even something that you set out to accomplish and achieved and gave you a real sense of achievement. Would love to hear your stories as well!
