Then we shot up north to visit the AMAZING crew at Waimakariri District Council who are putting on some amazing events in parks in the next few months. What do you think about the teachers' strike? Thousands of Canterbury primary school teachers and principals are striking across the region today.
About 143 primary schools have closed, affecting around 50,000 school children. It's the third in a series of rolling strikes, and even bigger strikes including both primary and secondary school teachers haven't been ruled out yet.
Teachers say the strike action is calling for better pay and working conditions, more learning support, including for children with special needs, and smaller class sizes.

A great example is Pasifika student Tepora Rokotavo who did a pre-trade course in electrical studies with us at Ara Institute of Canterbury. Tepora achieved 93% in her final exams – an outstanding result – and is now on her way to becoming a qualified electrician. We love helping female students into trades careers.

North Canterbury Chicken Rescue founder Manda Gill says the volunteer group receives the most complaints about abandoned chickens between November and March.
People abandon them for various reasons, but mainly because the chicks turn out to be roosters.
"I think everything deserves a fair shot at life," she says.
