The Kaiapoi community has rallied to ensure pupils at a school hit by a "heartbreaking" fire can still take part in their town's Santa Parade.

The Kaiapoi Promotions Association has offered to create a float for the school and has received support from Kaiapoi Menz Shed, Kaiapoi Monograms, the Woodend Lions and other local businesses.

The Kaiapoi-Tuahiwi Community Board has also approved a $500 grant to pay for building materials.
