Waimakariri residents needing help with their job search can get advice from their local library.

Waimakariri Library staff have been doing further training to help people with their CVs and job applications, and to find employment.

“We see people working on CVs, and applying for jobs almost every day on our public computers, and it is rewarding when you help someone find a job, “customer services librarian Sarah Stenhouse said.

Rangiora and Kaiapoi libraries are now offering free workshops for jobseekers who need help with writing or updating a CV, or applying for jobs online. The workshops will also cover setting up an email, resume options, and popular online job sites.

“We hope these workshops will provide an opportunity to help our community in these difficult times, and be able to show jobseekers how to make a good first impression to potential employers,” Stenhouse said.

The workshops are being held at Rangiora Library on July 27 and August 6, Kaiapoi Library on July 30 and August 7. All workshops run from 10am to 12pm and bookings can be made by calling 03 311 8091.

A Rangiora couple’s ongoing efforts to help Samoan communities affected by extreme weather or poverty have been given a boost by the New Zealand Army.

Pacific Island Hope Mission founders Jason and Sandy Watson began sending furniture and other essentials to island communities following a holiday to Samoa in 2017.

They had booked to travel to Apia this month to help distribute clothing, stationery, kitchen utensils and school equipment, but had to cancel due to ongoing border restrictions.

The NZ Army has been involved in the project since helping after Cyclone Gita in 2018, and soldiers from 3rd Combat Service Support Battalion at Burnham Military Camp were on hand last week to collect all the donations from various schools and churches.
