We have a friend who is in need of a home/accommodation where she can have her lovely, well-behaved border collie and sweet older cat in exchange for gardening or other work. Preferably long term and in the country areas of North Canterbury as she has family in Rangiora. She is a very fit 65 with a lovely disposition; a health masseuse with very interesting conversations. She is also willing to pay a reasonable rent, if 15 hours of gardening/labour a week, isn’t required.
Can anyone help? Please message me if you can or if you know of someone else who may be able to help. Thank you

She and her partner Hamish Dean, originally from Woodend, made the rather rash decision to uplift themselves and their daughters, 3 and 6, from their lockdown life in LA last year.

The larger-than-life American is not likely to blend into the background at the local farmers market, but she is embracing her new Kiwi life – and so far still has her sense of humour intact. Read more here.

Facebook continues to fuel the rumour mill surrounding Kaiapoi's emergency services, but those services warn not to believe everything you read.

St John North Canterbury territory manager Cole Gillman said the organisation was committed to ambulance operations in Kaiapoi, as well as the broader North Canterbury area.

The Hilton St station, which sits on council land, will be relocated as the land has been purchased from the council for another development.

“St John is in the final stages of negotiations with the landlord of a temporary site within Kaiapoi to base our ambulance services,” Gillman said.

“Once we have finalised negotiations, we will be in a position to inform the Kaiapoi community which continues to be very supportive of St John.

“In addition to a temporary location, St John is embarking on a broader piece of work to find a new permanent home for St John in Kaiapoi.”

February 22 will mark the 10th anniversary of the Christchurch Earthquakes.

With uncertainties surrounding commemorations due to recent Covid-19 restrictions, the Christchurch City Council will live stream the event so that people worldwide will have to opportunity to pay their respects.

The council has worked closely with the Quakes Families Trust to create a memorial service that will acknowledge and commemorate those that lost their lives and all that have endured hardship due to the disaster.

“We want people, no matter where they are in the world, to feel part of the commemorations so we will be live-streaming both the national memorial service on 22 February and the free concert – Ōtautahi Together – on 28 February,” says Christchurch City Council Civic and International Relations Manager Matt Nichols.

185 Cantabrians lost their lives when a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck at a depth of 5km near south-east Christchurch in 2011.

Share your messages of support below and don't forget to type NFP if you don't want your comment featured in the Northern Outlook.
