An email scam has re-emerged that references Police and other justice sector partners.

The email claims authorities have done a search of the email recipient’s computer locating explicit illegal material, and that a reply is needed within 48 hours or a warrant will be issued for their arrest.

This email is a scam and anyone who receives it should not reply under any circumstances. Although some versions of the email do not specifically reference money, other similar scams involve the recipient being issued a ‘fine’ when they respond. Police have received several reports of this scam and enquiries are underway.

It’s important to note that Police and other government agencies will never contact you out of the blue and ask for your password, credit card or bank details.
Anyone who received this email scam is asked to send it as an attachment in an email to the Police Cybercrime Team: cybercrime@police.govt.nz

Police recommend taking a cautious approach to unsolicited emails.
- Trust your gut instinct - if it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.
- Information on other scams currently operating can be found on the Consumer Protection website.
- Netsafe can also provide some helpful advice about keeping safe online.

The recent FIFA Women's World Cup was a huge success at its venues in Australasia and world-wide via television.

The matches were called "family friendly ". The only reason for this title was the price of admission to the 64 matches played. Twenty dollars-forty dollars at Wellington Regional Stadium I presume for all but one of the nine games played and not a great deal more if any at all the other venues here and across the Tasman.

So with the pricing that low there were pleny of kids at the stadiums.

Here is the real cost of attending world class sport. Spectators at the Rugby World Cup in France starting this weekend have paid up to $1500 each per match per seat. The cost just to pre- register for a ticket to a Warriors home finals match in the NRL in a few weeks is $49.

Wellington Lions last Sunday may very well have achieved the finest performance from a Wellington rugby side ever.

Ok Wellington are the NPC champs from 2022 and are the proud holders of the new-look Ranfurly Shield from outstanding performances in 2022, but the team that took the field against Canterbury was not anywhere near the team that had triumphed in 2022 or even a few days earlier in 2023.

Everyone knows Canterbury and the Crusaders and everyone knows how utterly hard either team is to beat on their own home turf.

But a Wellington squad that had defended the Shield twice in four days (including against the strong Tasman side) and now had to play a champion Crusaders-filled Canterbury only four days later were up against it. So much so that in recognition that defeat was almost certain with the Shield not at stake, the team selected were almost all from outside the top 15 starters and many from the fringes of the large playing squad. And it had an untested new captain.

So the young Lions side thoroughly deserved their win even if it took a brilliant try in the last couple of minutes to separate the teams. For instance, the co-commentator said as the teams lined up for the start, that the Canterbury pack was going to rein mayhem upon the Wellington pack presenting them with unrelenting problems at scrum and lineout times. It just didn't happen.

So after its flurry of 3 championship games in 8 days, Wellington Lions are the only unbeaten side in the 14-team comp with 5 from 5. And the coaches are left with the task of just who to select for the next game with at least 30 players putting up their hands.
