Fast, convenient and easily regulated heat, gas can bring a moderately sized room to a warm comfortable temperature in about 10-15minutes. Energy Star rated flued gas heaters are the most efficient and won’t release moisture or harmful gases into your home. Glass-fronted gas fireplaces are significantly more efficient than open fronted and create much smaller carbon footprints. If you live in an area that has no gas supply, you can have tanks that are delivered to you, last for months and only get changed out as required.

“In its fifth year, the event has been a sell-out, and I’m delighted with the public’s support,” said Ms Upston.
“Today, tomorrow and Thursday this week at Midland Park in Wellington’s CBD, the same group of prisoners who successfully cooked up a storm for the popular event last week will have their culinary masterpieces on display by Corrections at a bonus Gate to Plate pop-up event as part of the Visa Wellington on a Plate festival.
“I was lucky enough to sample the meal ahead of the event and it surpassed my expectations with a range of different foods and types of preparation, cooking and presentation. I’m looking forward to visiting the pop-up on Wednesday.
“The Gate to Plate events coinciding with Got a Trade week is significant, showcasing that our prisoners are gaining valuable skills to bolster their employability and their successful reintegration into society. This year Corrections have delivered 11 million hours of industry training, education and treatment to prisoners.
“Through their hard work, the prisoners will gain qualifications that will help them get work on the outside upon release. This in turn will help them to live a crime-free life.”
The prisoners created canapés, entrées, mains and desserts and were mentored by celebrity chef Martin Bosley, executive chefs James Pask from Whitebait and Kristan Mulcahy from The Green Man, and Rimutaka’s catering instructors.

The work was scheduled for earlier this … View moreMotorists are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys over State Highway 58 this weekend, or consider taking alternative routes, as work starts (weather permitting) on the tie-in between the existing road and the new Haywards Interchange.
The work was scheduled for earlier this month but was postponed because of a poor weather forecast.
Significant delays are likely while work is carried out between 7pm on Friday August 25 and 7pm Sunday August 27.
Stop-go traffic management will be in place between Hugh Duncan St and SH 2.
Wellington Transport System Manager, Mark Owen says the work is needed to construct the new road alignment that will connect State Highway 58 and State Highway 2 at the interchange. Once completed, the route will be safer, smoother and more resilient.
“We try to minimise delays to traffic where we can, however it is unavoidable due to the reconstruction of the existing road, and we need to finish this work as quickly as possible. We are encouraging people to use an alternative route if at all possible over the weekend, as there could be significant delays with SH 58 down to one lane, while crews are working. Please bear with us while we get it finished, and then we can all look forward to enjoying the benefits of this new infrastructure.”
Crews will be working day and night with stop/go traffic management in place at all times. The work is weather dependent, so please keep an eye on the NZTA Twitter and Facebook pages, and pay attention to the electronic message boards in the area. “If wet weather strikes we will reschedule the work to a weekend when fine weather is forecast.”
Its doors have been open through rain, hail and snow for 45 years, but now a power cut will force Upper Hutt wildlife park Staglands to close for a day this month.
The business had been open every day except Christmas Day since 1972, office manager Celeste Digby-Smith said.

3/ NEW RETAIL STORE IN CBD. This replacement for the burnt-down Hallensteins shop is just a single storey thus missing the opportunity to create apartments above the retail space and set-up the CBD for a mix of retail etc and accommodation/living quarters.
4/ THE MALL. Third rate and so does not provide for an exciting, creative and interesting place to visit that set's it apart from others.

When we first moved to Trentham in 2003, it was possible to turn into Moonshine Road, as you come off the Hutt River-Moonshine bridge from the north bound lane of the motorway, until they put up the barrier in the middle of the motorway, because it was so dangerous crossing over the high velocity traffic flow of the south bound lane, to access entry into Moonshine Road.
But, if you take a walk under the eastern side of the Hutt River-Moonshine motorway bridge, you'll find only 2 or 3 low fences that block the route under the bridge, that could easily be removed and the route converted into an underpass, so that when you come off the Hutt River-Moonshine bridge from the north bound lane of the motorway, you would then move left into a slow-down lane that would next double back under the motorway bridge, and up onto Moonshine Road, thereby restoring the faster motorway travel we once all had ! The only thing that might be an obstacle is if there is less than 4.3 metres of clearance for trucks etc, but that could be overcome by either lowering the road slightly or else, you have a warning sign, and a warning portal, where any too high vehicle that passes through it, activates an alarm to tell it to turn around and use another route; eg Whakatiki St.
The underpass may be subject to flooding, but that is no different to the Pharazyn St/Melling bridge underpass in Lower Hutt, and we have some good concrete available these days !

I would be grateful if a Lead from each of our 17 neighbourhoods could step forward as an 'Official' (don't like that word, but ....) to help oversee the process, ensure it stays on track, and becomes an extension of individual Noticeboards.
It would have been great to have it for the Recycling Survey, but now we can move forward.
