On Monday, media were invited to take the first journey along the full 27-kilometre motorway, which Waka Kotahi NZTA says is now 85 per cent complete. It is due to open in September 2021.

Upper Hutt Mayor Wayne Guppy says residents should have a say on water meters. However, he was personally opposed to a user-pays scheme.

Police received a report about 1.50pm on Monday that an aircraft had been seen crashing near Kaitoke Airstrip in Upper Hutt.
The plane had crashed into a bush, killing its sole occupant.
