The Leader and the Hutt News are barely holding on to serving as weekly publication relevant to the cities they represent and this May 2 front page item is surely another step in nailing the coffin.
For some obscure reason, I still buy the DomPost - maybe it's because I was engaged by them for years as a journo. And a few days ago, the very same story about this women and photo appeared in the front page of the DomPost. So effectively the Upper Hutt Leader "stole, copied, regurgitated " a story from the local daily that had seemingly in reading the article nothing to do with Upper Hutt.
Could it be that Upper Hutt alone among the region's towns and cities, has a pronounced large elderly population so the story of a 110 year old lady raised in Dunedin and apparently now living in Clinton, South Otago is relevant afterall.
Or could it be that the Leader's editor and his/her news staff are lazing away and were careless not to add to the story that the remarkable woman has actually lived in Upper Hutt for the past 65-odd years.
But whatever, Stuff and Neighbourly and the like are more than gradually taking over. And I would say that within 2 years the Upper Hutt Leader and within 5 years the DomPost will cease to exist as they are now.

Have they infiltrated Upper Hutt too?
It could be the the highly rated Fig Tree Cafe in Heretaunga/Thentham has had a cluster fly problem.
I am certain that the management of Fig Tree will do whatever it takes to rid the fly problem that they have or had.
If you want to really see or experience flies then try Perth or anywhere along that coastline in Australia. There they have fly sandwiches so called because any food consumed outside can attract hundreds if not thousands of flies.
As for the report by a Neighbourly member that a Fig Tree employee said the management didn't care about any fly problem - what nonsense. Go figure.
