Salted Peanuts Worth Peanuts

Michael from Trentham

Bought from the bulk bins section of PaknSave, Upper Hutt yesterday a supply of unsalted peanuts for my Sun Conure parrot.

So when I came to distributing a quantity into one of his food trays, took the liberty to sample one myself. It was salty. So tried a few more and also salted.

Don't know the full consequences of giving a small parrot salt to eat daily but it aint good - just as salt is no go for dogs..

So PnS ahould be much more careful as some humans let alone parrots can die or be a stepping stone to organs breakdown from eating salt/sodium or too much salt/sodium.

Did phone the supermarket who were not particularly concerned.

Should they be?

And yes, it was the unsalted roasted peanuts bin the peanuts came from.

WHAT'S SPECIAL ABOUT ME?
"Hello! I am a handsome devil named Ragnar. When I first came to SPCA, I was very very confused on what my role in life was, it took me a while to realise I wasn't being abandoned, through the help of the volunteers and staff. I previously spent a lot of time on a chain, so you can imagine it's been an adjustment for me. I still have a journey to complete, though have made great progress so far. I've enjoyed going for frequent walks, continuing basic training and of course giving all the cuddles and kisses I can! I am needing a home with some dog experience, to help coach me in life. I am also needing high, secure fencing of at least 1.8m. I will be a great companion for a lucky human, and won't hesitate to be your best pal in life. I am a big boy who may get overexcited around younger kids, but confident older kids in my new home would be fine. I have mixed with some dogs at the SPCA and have generally acted either very aloof or excited to see them, however I would get overwhelmed in an off lead area with other dogs such as dog parks. A social, patient existing dog could work well in my new home, or just human company is fine with me!"

"As a small city slicker, I don't see swamp harriers/kāhu (Circus approximans) that often (actually, I probably don't see them that often as we have falcons that live around here - the city raptor niche slot is full). We rumbled this one a couple of weekends ago feeding on some roadkill (as they do) on the gravel road to Boggy Pond in the Wairarapa. He was reluctant to go too far from his dinner, so I clicked a few shots as we walked past. Bird #58 in 2022."

Upper Hutt has a new night time display object.

It's funny but I mentioned what should happen last year ago on Neighbourly and finally, maybe someone took notice.

Its all about the tallest object in Upper Hutt - no its not a building in the CBD or a tree in Trentham Memorial Park - it's an old but proud chimney.

It is sited within the area that houses Brewtown and so several weeks ago the tall, narrow, ugly by day, concrete smokestack took on a night-time glamour all of its own with large neon lighting proclaiming BREWTOWN running almost from the top to near the bottom.

And guess what - it can change colours too: multi and singularily. A colour or colours to suit the occasion.

Tonight it is purple.

Just maybe it could be symbol of a brighter future for Upper Hutt.

Please do come to Citizens Advice Bureau's free talk on Friday 27th May at 11am upstairs in the Rimu Rooms in Coastlands if you want to know more, or have friends or relatives who are struggling

New Zealand tenancy laws have been steadily been updated over the last couple of years to provide greater fairness, and new Healthy Homes Standards mean that your homes must be warm and dry, but there are still areas of Tenancy legislation that don't necessarily protect tenants, especially people new to renting who are flatting

Come along to our free information session, and learn about Landlord and Tenant responsibilities in New Zealand and the new Healthy Homes Standards Landlords have to comply with

We will have a Q&A session afterwards and our speaker from Porirua Kapiti Community Law Centre, Mike Sceats, can also answer questions on other topics you might be struggling with, such as citizenship applications, employment contracts etc

Nibbles, tea and coffee will be available afterwards 😊😊😊

Well .... That was a disappointing article in this weeks Kapiti Observer on the price of butter. I could have got more information from reading the comments on Neighbourly.
More info on the wholesale price of butter would have been interesting along with a recommendation or two about what action should be taken and what options consumers have. For example, the price of butter blends has stayed relatively constant, at around the $5 mark, compared to the 100% butter packs. There are some other advantages too. Blends are better for you than butter in terms of saturated fat and most dont contain preservatives, while many margerines do.
Freight costs to ship goods overseas are high at present. So, if we are paying the same price as UK Sainsbury's, are we paying an overinflated price, given that there are less freight costs involved?
Was hoping for a good piece of investigative journalism on this issue, which was sadly lacking.
