How to enter:
Email photos and a 200-word or more description of your space to yhg@bauermedia.co.nz with your last name and ‘Resene Colour Home’ in the subject line. Please include your name, home address, email address, daytime phone number, the names of the Resene colours used, and details of when your space was painted. Please credit anyone who assisted you in choosing your colours. The five finalists will each appear in Your Home and Garden, starting from the December issue. Every finalist will receive a $250 Resene voucher and a feature in the magazine, with the winner taking out the Resene Colour Home Awards and $5000 cash. An extended story on the winning home will feature in the June 2021 issue.

Pest Free Upper Hutt have teamed up with Upper Hutt Menzshed and are doing great work trapping predators like rats, stoats and weasels that are targeting our native birds and their eggs. If you’re keen to help look after our native birds, get involved by placing a trap next to your compost bin, in your back yard, or become a coordinator. I visited there today with a friend, and was extremely impressed by the range of species and the reasonable prices, not to mention the "specials".
Sadly I am not able to fit another plant on my property - but thought I would remind everyone of the existence of this highlight.
If you are looking for something different to enhance your property - head north and go see for yourself.
AND ... as you walk around the site keep your eyes open around the area for some unusual surprises. eg: What do you think a Holly Bush looks like? Go see for yourself :-)

The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) issued the recall on September 30, advising people to stop using it immediately … View moreReusable coffee cup manufacturer Biopak has issued a recall for some products, due to the possibility of part of the cup detaching when liquid is present.
The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) issued the recall on September 30, advising people to stop using it immediately as a user could be burnt or scalded.
What you need to know:
- Contact Biopak or ring 0800 246 725 to get a refund on faulty items.
- The products were sold from January 2013 to September 2020
- All resuable coffee cups (8oz, 12oz, 16oz) in plain green or white should be
returned to Biopak.
- Those with custom names “SexieCoffie”, “Columbit”, “Echo”, “Hedland”, “Crop to Cup” or “Home Grain”. Should be returned immediately.

From Monday October5 the Central Library will be open from 9.30am to 6.00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, with a late night on Thursdays until 7.00pm. Weekend hours will be extended by half an hour each day with an earlier opening time of 9.30am, and closing at 4.00pm.
Pinehaven Library hours will also be extended by half an hour on Saturdays with an earlier opening time of 9.30am, with the weekday hours remaining the same.

Hipkins says hubs outside Wellington would take pressure off existing offices in Wellington..
Wellington’s public sector employs about 27,000, while there are about 37,000 in the private sector. A Cabinet paper tabled last year revealed the State Services Commission wanted to “reduce the footprint” of government workers in the Wellington and Auckland regions, and move agencies elsewhere when possible.

Getting out and about in Wellington is a little different this year with people having to adapt to social distancing. But it’s not just humans learning new norms.

Guide dog Pedro has also had to learn some new rules.
Genevieve McLauchlan, an Upper Hutt local, gets around in a motorised wheelchair with the support of Pedro.
Genevieve has Cerebral Palsy and vision loss as the result of an injury, so relies on Pedro’s guidance.
She is grateful for how Pedro quickly learned to move away from people and social distance. Pedro has also learned to work with Genevieve’s wheelchair. When she was first paired with a dog in 1998 by Blind Low Vision NZ (formerly The Blind Foundation), it was the first time in New Zealand, possibly the world, that a guide dog was working alongside a wheelchair.
Don't forget the Blind Week Appeal is on October 16 and 17.
