"Yesterday I was doing my usual stalking of the backyard birds with my camera behind my washing line as they were flying in for their daily feed of the seed that I had just thrown on the lawn and wondered why they just suddenly all flew off in all directions! What had scared them off was the sight of this magnificent but rotound feline lurking quite near by.

She is very much a Jeckyll and Hyde character, very friendly when she is tucked up with me at night and just loves having her belly rubbed. But outside she runs away when approached and totally disappears when friends or family drop in for a coffee!"

We wouldn’t change her for the world!Remember if you want your pet featured on Neighbourly, email us on yourpet@dompost.co.nz with a recent photo. Please remember to say which suburb you live in.

Upper Hutt's most Covid vaccinated locality is Trentham right where I live. We are currently at just over 90%.

This compares with the lowest vaccinated residents which is Maoribank and its surrounds with 76%. But the worse performing area of the Hutt Valley is the Delaney area of Stokes Valley at 67%.

Has the message not gotten through entirely to these places?

All approved Covid 19 vaccines are effective against the infection including the Delta variant and they prevent to a great extent the virus from spreading, from being severe and requiring hospitalisation and death from the disease.

The CDC came up with this equation: unvaccinated people are 11 times more likely to die of Covid 19.

CDC says vaccinated people are five times less likely to get infected and 10 times less likely to end up in hospital. These figures are pre the full effects of the Delta variant but will have changed little.

NZ's Ministry of Health says 97% of those being hospitalised in NZ are unvaccinated.

The ministry estimates that less that 100 people in the entire country would be unable to take the Pfizer vaccination but for many of these one of the other approved vaccines would be suitable.

Join the rest of the motu on October 28 by taking part in our national earthquake drill and tsunami hīkoi, ShakeOut. Signing up only takes 2 minutes and when you do, you’ll be entered to win a personal emergency grab bag or civil defence wheelie bin kit from NZ Civil Defence.
ShakeOut takes place around the world to remind people of the right action to take during an earthquake:

DROP - down on your hands and knees. This protects you from falling but lets you move if you need to.

COVER - your head and neck (or entire body if possible) under a sturdy table or desk (if it is within a few steps of you). If there is no shelter nearby, cover your head and neck with your arms and hands.

HOLD - on to your shelter (or your position to protect your head and neck) until the shaking stops. If the shaking shifts your shelter around, move with it.

Head to www.shakeout.govt.nz... to sign up today and get involved!

It’s called Plan Change 47 and has three distinct areas of focus: the Wellington Fault, Mangaroa Peatlands and areas of High Slope Hazards.

The proposed changes impact some properties in Upper Hutt. For example, the location of the Wellington Fault is now better understood and the location and extent has changed in some areas.

We want to give you a heads up about what's being proposed, ahead of a formal Plan Change in 2022.

Letters have been sent to impacted landowners with all the details. The information is also available online at letskorero.upperhuttcity.com/pc47
