Got a good idea. Why not transfer the annual Black Hawk Corgi Races organised by the Wellington Welsh Corgi Club based in Upper Hutt, to a real racetrack.

So contacted Wellington Racecourse regarding their Trentham Racecourse and told them about the fun annual Corgi races which has a free entry and has its dog food and treats prizes sponsored by MasterPet and gets hundreds of spectators come and watch such a fun and cute event and attracts media attention.

Well, Wellington Racecourse must be very hard up because they wanted $1150.00 for 50 metres of their racecourse for a couple of hours all up on the only weekend day they had available in November. And we are a not-for-profit organisation.

Disappointed. I am sure that other Corgi races held on racing tracks in Britain and the USA do not charge anything and in some cases they also allow use of racing dog (Greyhounds and Whippets) starting gates if they have them. In one case a Corgi race has featured every year at half time of a football match in the USA with over 50,000 people watching live.

How about just 50 metres of the inside the track part of the complex where other sports are played, I asked.
The Wellington Racecourse management came back with a $575 offer.

I suppose I will keep the races at a local public park and wait until Trentham Racecourse has its multi storied apartments so it will be in a better financial position to downsize its hire out fees for 50 metres of turf.

No, rugby did not die due to the Covid pandemic and the complexity and stop-start outcomes of its rules.

At the weekend the AB-Ire, SA- Wales and Aust-Eng internationals attracted 150,000 spectators collectively and add in the other 5 international matches at the weekend just past, and the spectators added up to over a quarter of a million.
And those watching through tv etc were in their millions and millions.

The record for the most spectators at a rugby match is 120,000 and every continent other that Antarctica (where rugby of a sought has been played at Scott Base) an international match has seen at least 60,000 people present.

Of course I am still recovering from the euphoria of the ABs on Saturday evening at Eden Park swamping the Irish who may just have been favourite to win the contest. And we had Hurricanes-flavoured players Ardie Savea, Beauden Barrett and Jordie Barrett absolutely star for the triumphant men in black.

The question is: will Savea be given the title of the best rugby player on the planet for 2022?

I wouldn't be changing a single player from the ABs starting 15 for the second test against the Irish even though three Covid struck members of the playing squad may be available again and Dalton Papalii is back to full fitness.

And not to be sports bias, I watched the Warriors go from horribly terrible to heroes in front of 26,000 people in Auckland earlier today in winning their first match of the last eight in the Australian league competition, in a welcome home after nearly 3 years stuck across the Tasman.

Check out the concept designs for the new terminal and the bigger, hybrid-electric Interisland ferries we’re having custom-built. Work will start shortly on the terminal redevelopment, ready for the arrival of the new ferries from 2025.

The Interislander journey across Te Moana o Raukawakawa (Cook Strait) is one of the most spectacular in the world and we’re creating a customer experience to match.

Come and kōrero with the team working on this awesome project. We’d love to see you there.

Let's forget that I am a Wellingtonian. What I want as a person residing in the region outside of the city is for Wellington to get moving quickly and make up somewhat for lost time and opportunity.

I see Wellington city as the place where there is an airport that should be fully international, a general and specialist public hospital, sports stadium and arena, an army of large stylish theatres, home of the national museum, the Botanical Gardens, the Courtenay Place entertainment strip, a port with a beautiful waterfront, Government Central, Universities, a movie making hub and so on.

So does the new -old plan that the Labour Government is just now pushing for with a 2028 start, fit the bill?

No. For really one reason only: there has to be a double lane tunnel thru Mt Vic available to all traffic (or two devoted lanes each way for all traffic) .

And I am not fussed with light rail from Wellington Station to Island Bay when a rapid bus service would suffice and the savings go towards other initiatives.
