What do you think about the introduction of trout farms into Taupo?

The mass production of trout is estimated to become a major facet of Taupo's contribution to our Primary Industries like forestry and agriculture.

Currently, trout fishing adds $11 million to the local economy, with more benefits forecast if mass farming is authorised. However, the NZ Federation of Freshwater Anglers has highlighted a list of potential issues with farming including disease, poaching and a blackmarket, genetic damage from escapees and polluted effluent.

Share your thoughts below and don't forget to type NFP if you don't want your comment to feature in the Conversations section of the Taupo Times.
