She was kosher - had all the right ID - and did not collect cash or cheques, but had a really excellent soft sell manner, getting me to agree how good the Red Cross is, and then subtle pressure to get me to sign up to a regular giving plan by automatic payment or debit/credit card. She told me that all my lovely neighbours had signed up. I found it really hard to say 'no' but I did. No doubt she is being paid by commission but I prefer to donate to the Red Cross in my own way - I donate through Kiwibank from time to time. They give me a tax receipt on the spot. I do not want any of my donation to go towards commission.

The affected cycle path, known as the Tuki Tuki Loop, runs from the Waimarama and Te Mata Rd intersection and along Tuki Tuki Rd onto Moore Rd. Hawke's Bay Trails, which looks after the region's cycleways, will be looking at ways to improve safety along the route. In the meantime maps are being changed to reflect the temporary closure, cycleway signs are being removed, and cycle businesses and associations have been advised. Please share this message with your cycling friends. For more information email NZ Cycle Trails using the link: www.nzcycletrail.com...
