Felted Soap. Our alternative to body wash.
Hi everyone!
With all the emphasis on hand-washing these days, we thought it would be a good time to share our story with you.
My partner and I were looking for a totally natural and gentle cleanser without the use of liquid detergent body wash. We found that the detergents in body washes made our skin dry and itchy while soap seemed to be far gentler (and natural!).
After our switch, what we did miss was the rich lather and scrub you get from using a loofah and a big dollop of body wash! The soap bars got used up quickly and became a slippery, soggy mess.
And that started our mission to find a better way.
We shopped around but couldn’t find anything that suited us. So, we decided to take matters into our own hands. We tried a few different things but success came after wrapping a bar of soap in wool and felting it under warm water.
Not only did the soap lather through the wool, it provided a gentle scrub, the bar lasted for ages and no mushy soapy mess in the shower!
Victorious, we decided that we couldn't keep this to ourselves. This was when Bruntwood Lane was born. We began hand felting bars and selling them at weekend markets. Those who hadn't heard of it (which was everyone) were intrigued by the idea and gave it a go.
The feedback was tremendously positive. And we’ve continued ever since!
A bar will typically last for 4-6 weeks so, if you’re starting to run out of your felted wool soap, don’t worry! We've continued to hand-craft our felted soap here in Tauranga over this last month to help kiwis stay clean with quality felted soap made from local ingredients.
And if you haven't yet, give felted soap a go!
Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.

Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?
An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.
When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
