As a parent or parent-to-be, your number one focus will be the health and safety of your kids. In fact, it doesn't matter whether they are 18 months or 18 years, we always have their best interests in mind - even if they don't listen anymore!

However, the home environment can present many dangers to young children. Take curtains and blinds, for example. Although they look great in a room, there's a risk that kids can hurt themselves if they play around with them.

As such, what are the measures that you can take to ensure that they are safe in your home? Let us explain.

Keep your windows child-safe
Keep babies’ cots well away from windows and ensure that all blind and curtain cords are out of reach. This may mean not placing furniture next to windows – toddlers love climbing!

Child safety devices
You could install a safety device that adds another level of protection. This allows cords to be tightly wound around a cleat and out of reach, alternatively you could opt for electronically operated blinds.

Reduce the hazard
It is important to be aware at all times of child safety around the home. An extra safety measure is the installation of a safety device that either removes the cord loop or limits access to cords. A tension device (either a chain tensioner or cleat) can be anchored to the wall or floor so that young children cannot play with cords or put them around their neck.

Selecting the right curtain fabric type
There is no doubt that kids love to pull and tug on items around your home. While you can tell them off as many times as you like, it might be a good idea to invest in stronger fabric type for curtains in a kid's bedroom.
For example, sheers and voiles - while they look great in a baby's nursery, these fabrics are too lightweight and prone to damage especially when your youngest becomes mobile and wants to practice their climbing skills! In a kid's bedroom, you'll want a strong fabric that can take the odd pull and is also easy to clean should they get dirty.

If you need help, give us a call on 0800 579 0501 and we can offer helpful advice. We can also provide safety devices to keep your blind cords out of reach.

Hi Everyone!

It was my partner's birthday a little while ago - she's really into art & photography.

As the date closed in, I thought it would be a great idea to get her one of the Fujifilm Instant Film cameras, they're nostalgic and fun (she likes that sort of stuff)

With the camera sorted, I headed down to my local electronic store to grab some film, and was shocked by how expensive it was. I checked online and found to save a couple of bucks I'd have to wait a week for it to be delivered!

So I decided to do something about it.

Fast-forward to now, I've been offering Instax Mini Film to kiwi's at the best price with overnight delivery using NZ Post's courier service.

I'd like to share my savings with you, if you're looking for Instax Mini Film or know anyone who uses one of these cameras - head along to my website:

You'll also get to see Tucker my retriever :)

Cheers,

Brandon

Have your say on the Tauranga Rubbish Decision!
The rubbish debacle information rollout continues. What has the Council signed the ratepayers up to? Is the Council only passing on the cost from Envirowaste or is it adding a large markup to this figure? All this for a reduced service rubbish pickup. And still, no Pay as You Throw option. This is the only real way to minimise rubbish. WBOP chose a Pay as You Throw scheme.

Papamoa Residents & Ratepayers Association has an Online Petition for ratepayers to record their views on the rubbish decision. The results will be presented to the Council in a public forum.

Go to www.taurangarubbishoptions.com... to have your say or www.papamoaresidents.co.nz...

Can you publicise the following? Send to your friends, neighbours, Facebook groups. We need 5000 participants. Cut and paste this text into an email.

Thank you

And don't forget that the ratepayers are fronting with the $8 million dollars to buy the bins, something we have never had to do before and a subsidy to envirowaste. That is after they steal your waste and the rightful business of the current contractors for no compensation. The council neither own your waste nor do they own the collection system. Theft on a grand scale.

Hello everybody, my name is Friederike and I
am a Cranio Sacral therapist (CST) since 1996.

Originally qualified as a German physiotherapist in 1992, I changed my focus over the following years more and more to the more wholesome treatment CST.

CST is a very gentle, deeply relaxing whole body treatment, suitable for adults and kids.

Every day all of us experience physical and emotional stresses and strains, which cause our body’s tissues to contract. Sometimes, if stress lasts too long or the shock is severe, tissue remains contracted, which restricts our body’s functioning (“we are stuck”) and can lead to problems such as chronic pain, headaches/migraine, exhaustion, sleep disorders, digestive disorders, anxiety, TMD (trouble with the jaw), learning disabilities.

By balancing the environment around the central nervous system and enhancing the body’s natural ability to self-heal, CST is able to ease a large range of health problems, relieve pain and help improve our overall well-being.

While you are lying fully clothed on a treatment table, I will detect these problem areas with a light touch, feeling various parts of the body and help release stress and tension held deep within, thus freeing any energy previously used to hold restrictions.

In the last years my focus has been mostly on my kids and family, giving treatments to friends and people in need as I encountered them.

Now I have started to offer my services regularly again. You can find me and my Cranio Sacral colleague Rachel Penny in Cherrywood.

Our contacts are:

Friederike 027 495 7989

Rachel 022 0670 052

We are very much looking forward to meeting you!

Want to understand why Linen makes such a great choice for your household textiles? Here are 7 common misconceptions about linen, and the reasons why they’re wrong.

1. It’s expensive
Sure, you can find plenty of pricey linen textiles out there. But it doesn’t have to cost more. Our business is primarily online, which means we can offer top quality linen wares at very reasonable prices. Our fabrics are cut to demand and can be made bespoke to your individual needs, so you get amazing value for money. Tailor-made, highest grade linens at a fraction of the cost of other bespoke tailoring services.

2. It’s wrinkly
Well, yes, this is partly true – but the natural crinkles are actually part of the charm of linen fabric. The wrinkles are something to celebrate and mean that you can take linen pants with you on vacation without worrying about having to find an iron. They will look wrinkled, but intentionally so. If you really want to keep the fabric completely flat for a home sewing project you can cut linen on the bias and it won’t wrinkle. Linen is the ultimate in effortlessly stylish, easy, simplicity.

3. It’s difficult to care for
This couldn’t be more wrong! Our linen is machine washable and can be tumble dried. If you buy pre-shrunk garments there’s nothing to worry about, as long as you follow the manufacturer’s care instructions. Linen is hardwearing and durable, and in fact it gets softer and more supple with every wash. And because of the inherent crinkles (see above) there’s no need to bother about ironing.

4. It’s plain
There is certainly a rustic charm to linen, but. It’s so much more than that. Linen holds dye brilliantly, which means you can find linens in amazing colours and patterns, from bold citrus brights to subtle muted tones. We stock over 1000 different linen fabrics, so you can be sure to find the perfect fit for your home or your wardrobe.

5. It’s only for summer
Linen is a fabulous fabric for hot weather as it allows your skin to breathe, and wicks away moisture to keep you feeling dry and comfortable. But. It’s also a great choice for winter too. Thanks to its temperature-regulating properties linen will keep you warm and cosy on chilly days, yet you’ll never overheat. Transition between seasons with linen throws and linen scarves to add texture and warmth without being too bulky.

6.The lower thread count means lower quality
Again, this is wrong, wrong, wrong! Thread count is often used by cotton manufacturers and retailers as a mark of quality – the higher the thread count, the better the quality. Yet this doesn’t apply to linen. The fibres in linen are thicker, which means there will naturally be fewer when compared to cotton. In fact, linen is not only better in terms of quality, durability and feel,. It’s also better for the planet. In a contest, linen vs. cotton, linen wins hands down.

7. It’s not soft
There is a misconception that linen isn’t as soft as other fabrics. Whilst this may be true of poor quality, cheap linen, when you buy a garment from a reputable manufacturer who sources the best flax you’ll see for yourself just how deliciously soft linen can be. The fabric softens with each wash, so it gets snugglier with age.

If you have linen curtains in your house, we can DEFINITELY clean them! Call us on 0800 579 05 01 if you have any questions!
