This occurred just before Christmas and temporary safety measures have been put in place to protect the safety of users on the wharf.
Western Bay of Plenty District Council has arranged for contractors to securely fence off the damaged part of the wharf. This work should be completed by the end of next week.
Boat passengers will still be able to use the wharf which is being regularly monitored to ensure public safety. Wharf users are asked to avoid the danger area and vehicles are prohibited from driving on the wharf. Council is undertaking a detailed condition inspection of the wharf structure to gain a better understanding about its remaining life so that decisions can be made about its repair or replacement.

Many people setting up paddling pools for their children this summer will be breaking the law - are you one of them?
Any pool, fixed or portable, deeper than 400mm is now subject to safety provisions under the Building Act, meaning there a quite a few rules you probably aren't even aware of.
For example, do you have a 1.2-metre fixed childproof fence with a self-closing gate opening outwards?
What are your thoughts on paddling pool safety? If faced with an inspection, would your pool set-up pass? Do you think all these rules are essential? What are your tips for setting up a paddling pool safely?

During the closure traffic will be detoured via Bell Road/Parton Road and Tara Road, which will add approximately two minutes to the journey time to and from Te Puke. A temporary roundabout will be in place at the Bell/Parton roads intersection. The detour will be well sign-posted and motorists have the option of using the tolled Tauranga Eastern Link.
