The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that passing lanes at Maramarua on SH2 will be closed for safety reasons during busy Christmas and New Year holiday travel periods. SH2 is the main highway connection between Auckland and the Coromandel and Tauranga.

“The closures will make the road safer for all road users in heavy traffic by maintaining a steady flow and preventing the risk of crashes as traffic merges at the end of the passing lane,” says the Transport Agency’s Acting System Manager Ross l‘Anson. Keep updated here

New Zealand is preparing for a future free trade agreement with the United Kingdom. We’re asking for New Zealanders’ views now, so we can take them into account right from the start of the process.

Key benefits we will be looking for include removing tariffs and other barriers that restrict the flow of goods and services between our countries, and closer cooperation on progressive trade issues, including environmental protections.

Hi,

I am Josh and I'm 14 years old. Just an update on my last post, about my website, www.teenjobs.co.nz.... To remind you, New Zealand spends $345 million per year on 15-19 year olds unemployment benefits and I have taken up a challenge to address this. I would like to thank you all for your interest, positive comments and support after my last post.

Teen Jobs is now live to employers & households, with over 200 teenagers registered all across Tauranga & growing everyday with lots of contacts being made! I truly believe the website has the potential to help 1,000's of teenagers to find jobs and learn valuable skills for later in life.

BUT I NEED YOUR HELP!

It is a massive job to build up an active group of employers & households. We are free to use... so I have a marketing budget of $0 :) We have been fortunate enough to featuring on The Breeze Tauranga breakfast show & in The Weekend Sun newspaper. But we need to keep building up employers and households that will support teenagers.

If anyone has any contacts or idea that could promote or grow the website, please let me know. Also if everyone spreads the word, and tries the site, it will assist Tauranga's youth, providing them with experience & a little bit of extra cash.

Our site is designed to be extremely user friendly and free to use. You dont need to list a job, you simply select a teenager from our registered teenagers and make contact. Jobs can be everything from household chores like babysitting, lawn mowing, clean ups or even looking after the cat, right through to more permanent jobs.

Please visit my website, www.teenjobs.co.nz... for more information.

Kindest regards,
Josh Callander

The combination of another warm humid day and light winds are expected to produce thunderstorms about many parts of the North Island this afternoon and evening.

Between about 1pm and 9pm today, a few of the thunderstorms could be severe about inland North Island areas from Northland to Whanganui, Taihape and Hawkes Bay (including Auckland), and also affecting coastal parts of Gisborne and Hawkes Bay.

These thunderstorms are expected to produce localised downpours of 25-40 mm/hr (or more), hail 20mm diameter (or larger), and maybe wind gusts of 60-80km/hr.

Rainfall of this intensity can cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips.

Driving conditions will also be hazardous with surface flooding and poor visibility in heavy rain.
