The Friends of the Taupo Museum are excited to present the 'Mirror Magic' exhibition to Taupo.

Mirror Magic takes you beyond the looking glass and into the crazy back-to front, upside-down world of reflections and light.

The incredible properties of mirrors inspire people from all walks of life. Magicians use them to create illusions, scientists use them within a microscope to enable us to see things which are too small to be seen with the naked eye, and artists use them to explore the nature of reality. Mirrors are quite magical and this exhibition allows you to delve into some of their amazing properties and many uses in fun and exciting ways.

A new district-wide education campaign is being rolled out to encourage people to do the right thing when it comes to flushing foreign objects into the wastewater system.

The 'We're all guardians of our Great Lake' campaign will feature radio, print and billboard advertising to get the message out and is being run in conjunction with an extensive preventative wastewater pipe maintenance programme that began earlier in the year. So far there have been 62.5 kilometres of pipes surveyed and 1470 manholes checked and cleaned, which accounts for approximately 35 per cent of the number we have in the Taupo/Acacia Bay area. More than 295 of the manholes checked had to be raised to the surface as over time many had been buried or built over. Another 735 will require some follow-up work.

It was made from a pair of jeans from an op shop. "All of my gardening clothes come from op shops," she says. "Large men's shirts make good cover-ups to keep sun and insects off my arms. For the apron, start with a smaller size than you would wear so it doesn't wrap around too far. Check that it has a lot of pockets." So tell us if you've got similarly fashionable, exclusive-for-the-garden glad rags, and if yes, why not post a photo in the Reply space too!

Sadly, in the majority of cases, there were things the rider could have done to prevent the crash, “and that breaks my heart”, says Graeme. His solution? “Do some training”. It just might save your life.

ASB customers are being targeted in a "smishing" scam. They've been getting text messages claiming they've been locked out of their bank accounts, but it's really a ruse to get them to hand over their banking details.

ASB is aware of a current SMS ('smishing') scam where people have been sent a text message pretending to be from the bank. The 'smishing' SMS contains a link that once clicked prompts the person to provide personal information and a wide range of details such as login details and their Netcode.

ASB wants to remind everyone that legitimate messages from any bank would never ask customers to supply personal information, login details or second-factor identification.

The ASB Contact Centre is available on 0800 803 804 if a customer is concerned about any suspicious messages they receive. Read more here
