In announcing the development, Sue Wilkie, Lakes District Health Board communications officer, said the hub aimed to help take pressure off General Practitioners.
Anamata is a youth one-stop shop service that has been providing specialist sexual health services in Taupō for 30 years.
Its usual model is a drop in service.
“The silver lining of the Covid-19 situation is that the Taupō community has rallied together to find ways we can support each other. We thought this is one way we can take the load off GPs and they were absolutely happy with that," said Anamata chief executive Annabel Prescott.
Anyone in Taupō needing contraceptive and sexual health services can ring a newly set up number - 0800 Anamata (262 62820) - and GPs are also redirecting their patients to the Anamata "contraceptive hub".
Three nurses field the calls, take a history and assess clinical needs via the phone.
The service will also deliver the contraceptives in the Taupō area on a daily basis to save people moving out of their bubble.
If there needs to be a face to face appointment, it happens at the Heuheu Street clinic where bookings are staggered so only one client attends at a time.
People are also asked to sanitise their hands and the nurses wear appropriate PPE.
The rest of Anamata's team of youth workers and nurses and a doctor, are now all working offsite on other projects. The service is in the process of setting up virtual counselling which anyone in need of support can ring.
Prescott said the service saw in excess of 6000 young people a year aged 12 to 25 years. Various groups, including those involved with the rainbow community, were continuing to be run virtually, to ensure young people had continued access to support from their peers and Anamata.

As winter hits and fire use increases, people should have working smoke alarms (checked when we changed our clocks for daylight saving) and hot ashes need to be disposed of correctly - not put in a rubbish bag and left in or near a house.
In certain conditions ashes can stay dangerous for up to five days, he says.
FENZ recommends using a metal container when cleaning out a fire, leaving ash for five days, away from the house, before double bagging and even then waiting before putting out with the rubbish if they must be sent to landfill.

In response to this question Dr Phil Shoemack, Medical Officer of Health, Toi Te Ora Public Health said just after 4pm on Tuesday afternoon that confirmed cases in the DHB area are seven in Rotorua and four in Taupō.

The producers of New Zealand grass-fed Wagyu beef and premium farm-raised venison have launched a “Feed the Frontline” social media campaign, asking for nominations for supermarket workers who are “still smiling, demonstrating patience or making sacrifices” in order to help Kiwis get food on the table during the Alert Level 4 lockdown.
Thirty nominees will receive gift packs of First Light premium meat to share with their bubbles.
First Light chief executive Jason Ross says he felt it important to recognise the role supermarkets and food stores play in the response to Covid-19.
“We know how hard everyone at retail level is working right now. We see it, we understand how challenging it is, and we appreciate that if it wasn’t for supermarkets, companies like ours would be struggling to make it through.”
The initiative, for which nominations close on Sunday April 19, has already seen over 100 names put forward, and Ross says the comments from Kiwi shoppers have been touching.
To nominate a local supermarket staff member go to First Light’s Facebook or Instagram page, and leave a comment.
