Children aged five to 11 in Taupō and Turangi can register this week for the Taupō District Libraries Summer Reading Programme 2020/21.
It encourages kids to keep reading during the summer break with incentives for reporting back to our friendly librarians on books the kids are reading.
We also hold a party at the end of the programme for all our participants to attend, where they receive a certificate and a gift!
To find out more and sign up, pop into Taupō or Turangi library this week. Places on the programme are limited, so be quick!

We'd be keen to hear about your favourite summer holiday spots in NZ. Is there somewhere you keep returning to year after year and, if so, what are the main attractions? What makes it such a stand-out spot? Any tips you may be able to offer on the best things to see and do there - as well as the best places to grab a drink or bite to eat - would be much appreciated. Please put 'NFP' (not for publication) in your comment if you don't want it to appear in a travel article. Thanks again.

The mass production of trout is estimated to become a major facet of Taupo's contribution to our Primary Industries like forestry and agriculture.
Currently, trout fishing adds $11 million to the local economy, with more benefits forecast if mass farming is authorised. However, the NZ Federation of Freshwater Anglers has highlighted a list of potential issues with farming including disease, poaching and a blackmarket, genetic damage from escapees and polluted effluent.
