This feedback process is part of council’s Annual Plan consultation period running from today, Monday 14 March to 4.30pm on Thursday 14 April 2022.
Taupō District Mayor David Trewavas said hearing from the community is an important part of shaping the plan – which continues to evolve thanks to the fast-moving environment we find ourselves in.
“What we aim to achieve with this plan is balancing affordability for ratepayers with maintaining the levels of service and investment that our district needs to thrive.
“What I’m sure we are all feeling right now are the ongoing effects of Covid-19, including constraints on the availability of resources, materials and supplies, alongside increasing inflation rates not seen in over three decades. These are impacting on the affordability of many of our plans and projects.
“With this evolving situation, and in order to balance that affordability, we need to be a bit more flexible in our approach to investment across our district. This means we’re looking to reprioritise some of our projects and activities to later years, while focusing on delivering many of our projects already underway, including the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity afforded to us with Taupō Town Centre Transformation project.
“By reprioritising projects, it allows us to keep the projected capital spend over the next 12 months around the same as what we had planned for.
“What we’re asking for feedback on is whether you’re comfortable with this more nimble approach – as we work through this fast-changing environment. Our Annual Plan consultation document goes into more detail about the major projects we had planned for the next 12 months and how the current climate has affected these – primarily in terms of costs and timing – and what we are proposing for these.
“Alongside this, we are also asking for feedback on updates to our fees and charges, the Taupō Towncentre management rate, and our significance and engagement policy which we have recently updated.
“Please take the time to read through our plans and the issues we have highlighted. We want to hear from you – our community – on whether you think we have this right, whether we have prioritised appropriately, and what is important to you,” Mr Trewavas said.
Based on the current plan, the projected average rates rise for 2022/2023 is around 8.35%, with a proportion of this due to increasing government costs and regulations, like the requirement to purchase carbon units which have doubled in price in the past 12 months under the Emissions Trading Scheme.

So I googled Soups delivered Akl. And OMGosh I found this most amazing site, A Bit Dressy.
Had a bit of trouble getting my order of the most wonderful variety of soups on offer, placed, so I called this lovely, friendly, very helpful wee girl, called Lara, I believe. Seemed I had the wrong postcode for my friend.
I explained how ill my friends were and advised I was trying to place an order. She advised her delivery day was normally Thursdays, But given the severity of my issue, she would do a special cool Saturday, and hope to deliver Sunday. BTW, this was Friday just gone. She then told me she was so sorry she missed my previous call as she was on the ph to the hospital, and her dad had just fallen down a cliff, but she would do her very best to get these wonderful soups delivered on Sun / Mon at the latest.
Well 1 hour ago, 11am Sun, my soups arrived. My friends are thrilled.
Lara, you have helped a very sick family, more than you may ever no. Your professionalism is above and beyond. You will undoubtedly have a very successful business. I will shout to the rafters for you.
Well done you. You have uplifted my very sick friend and made my day as well.

“Our staff and contractors are impacted by Covid-19 restrictions in the same way that our communities are, and as cases rise this will start having an impact on the services and facilities we provide for our communities.
“We are doing our best to be agile and are already seeing some of these effects at our facilities, but please bear with us as it may be at short notice that our services changes or facilities close or amend their operations due to staff numbers,” Mr Green said.
Facilities (including libraries, the Events Centre, Great Lake Centre, Owen Delany Park, museum and pools) may close or amend their operations at short notice because of a Covid-19 positive situation or because staff are self-isolating. Programmes may also be reduced.
Rubbish and recycling kerbside collection may be affected as drivers and sorters may be required to self-isolate. The priority is to ensure rubbish collection continues as normal so while we will still collect recycling, on some occasions, this may be required to go to landfill. If you would prefer to do so, you can continue to stockpile it until we resume services.
Bus services may also need to amend their schedule if drivers need to self-isolate.
“We all really appreciate your understanding as we work through the continuing rise in cases. We will be focused on providing our critical services to our communities while keeping our staff and community safe,” Mr Green said.
Changes may be at short notice so updates will be provided via facebook, antenno, our e-Newsletter and website as well as through local media.
