To wrap up an amazing week, today we share some the comments we have received from members of the Taupo community about our volunteers. Thank you everyone for your lovely feedback. It’s great to know our volunteers are valued by everyone!

They make the world a better place! Thank you

Hospice makes money to help people – they are great ladies!

All their precious time is dedicated free of charge to serve the community with precision and utmost care. “Awesome”

They make my day every Wednesday I visit and shop, laugh and leave with a smile!

Everybody really has a smile on their face and so lovely.

Thank you volunteers!

They are priceless!

Because they aren’t paid to smile so their smiles are genuine!

Taupo would be lost without such volunteers.  “They rock”

Without volunteers this would not happen.  Caring is sharing!

Lovely people like this.  Lovely shop.  Best shop in the world.

Appreciate you all.  Where would we be if no one loved?

You do an awesome job!
They are selfless!

What a wonderful contribution to our community!

As part of National Volunteer Week #NVW2017 we are profiling some of our amazing volunteers and the work that they do!

Today meet the Turangi Shop Team

The most public face of Lake Taupo Hospice is no doubt the amazing teams of volunteers who work in our two Hospice shops – one in Turangi and the other in Taupo. Recently our Turangi shop has moved to bigger and brighter premises which gives it much more scope to accept the enormous range of great donations we receive. In the shop there is a real ‘team feel’ where everyone pitches in sorting, pricing, displaying and selling the items. “We’re smaller than the Taupo shop – where you can choose to be in the ‘depot’ or out ‘on the floor’ – here we all get to have a go at everything” says shop manager Sarah. And it’s a sentiment underlined by the rest of the team who chip in. “I love volunteering for Hospice in the shop. It is fun and I meet lots of lovely people” says Sue. “We have our ‘regulars’ which we see most weeks. It’s a great shop to work in and I also get to buy some amazing ‘treasures’ for not much money. And the icing on the cake is that I get to work with my best friend in Turangi!” And the rest of the team agree. “It gives us the opportunity to meet people in our community who we wouldn’t normally get to meet. And it’s the best way to be involved in the community. The giving and receiving is very special – being able to give is fabulous. It’s a great social outlet and we enjoy it”.

Turangi Shop is always open to new volunteers. To find out how to become a volunteer or to search through more than 40 different volunteer opportunities with Lake Taupo Hospice pop into the shop to have a chat or visit www.laketaupohospice.co.nz... , call 07 377 4252 or email volunteers@laketaupohospice.co.nz

As part of National Volunteer Week #NVW2017 we are profiling some of our wonderful volunteers and the work that they do.

Today – meet Adrienne (Volunteering 10 years)

Adrienne coordinates a group of unusual volunteers for Lake Taupo Hospice – a creative bunch who make handmade cards for bereaved families. This group reflects the wrap around support that Lake Taupo Hospice provides – which is centred not just on the patient and their immediate needs, but also on the care and support of their families throughout and after the patients death. As Adrienne says “I wish other people knew more about Hospice than it just looks after dying people. They are there for families too. It is not just cancer sufferers but anyone who has a terminal illness”. The group make nearly 100 beautifully hand crafted cards a year and it is a wonderful way for this group to put their passion and artistic skills to great use. The cards are a really personal touch for families at a difficult time. A lover of croquet and petanque, Adrienne got involved with Hospice through illness in her family and seeing what Hospice did first had, says that the most rewarding part of volunteering for Lake Taupo Hospice is the “opportunity to learn something new and to meet people from all aspects of life and all age groups. I’m amazed at the number of people involved and the variety of aspects involved”.

In addition to her card making, Adrienne is a transcriber for our volunteer biographers team and often helps out doing a variety of tasks during fundraising and promotional events.

Cheers to the Volunteers

Fire and Emergency New Zealand

Every year, over 11,000 brave men and women keep us safe. Most of them are working full-time jobs. Many are parents or grandparents. When the siren sounds, they all come running.

If you know a fire volunteer, this is your chance to say thanks. #cheerstothevolunteers
