The fee rises mean a current casual (24hrs) ramp fee of $5 increases to $6, while a 12 months ramp fee of $90 increases to $110. More substantial dollar value increases are seen in marina berth fees, for example a parallel, over 12.5m length berth at Taupō and Motuoapa marinas goes from $4000 annually to $4880.
The DIA says it will bring the fees on Lake Taupō into line with other lakes and marinas around the country.

New traffic lights at the intersection of Wairakei Drive and Norman Smith Street went live yesterday, and they are now being closely monitored.

The new intersection layout includes two right turning lanes from Norman Smith Street into Wairakei Drive, pedestrian crossings, cycle lanes and two lanes on Wairakei Drive merging before the Control Gates bridge.

Taupō District Council’s head of operations Kevin Strongman said the traffic flow would improve as road users got used to the new layout and any required adjustments to phasing of the signals were made.

It's true that you agreed to a legally binding contract as soon as you drove into the parking lot. Thankfully, New Zealand law protects consumers from the exploitative clauses that corporates love to slip in the fine print.

Under contract law, parking companies can only claim for "the actual and reasonable costs they incurred". Charging $65 for a short overstay in an empty carpark is as far from reasonable as you can get.

The new Lake Terrace sewer pipe was successfully installed and connected overnight meaning residents could return to normal water usage.

The connection marks a major milestone in the complex repair project required after the washout that occurred on July 2 as it means wastewater is no longer being pumped across the worksite.

Chief executive Gareth Green said this is a huge relief for all involved and clears the way for the next stage of repairs.

“Having to pump wastewater across the worksite has been very challenging, and now that we have our new pipe up and running we can remove that from the equation, focus on finishing the other services and get the road open. We’d like to thank the community for their help by reducing water use in the last 24 hours – it was greatly appreciated – and our contractors and council staff who have been putting in long hours to get to this point. We can all go back to normal water usage now – so there is no longer a need to reduce flushing, showering and baths, and washing machine use in Taupō,” he said.

"This is a great milestone for us all - you've done yourselves proud Taupō!"

Hundreds of thousands of inexpensive items that pass through the retail giant's checkouts every year, so it's only to be expected there will be recalls – Kmart even has a recalls page on its website, and there are 31 products on the list.

The $55 timber Occasional Chair is the latest casualty, although this is a withdrawal rather than a recall. We don't know the reason for its withdrawal, except Kmart says it is for "a potential quality issue". But what other products have been found wanting?
