A $452 million 21-storey high-rise building has been unveiled and is to be built above one of Auckland's new railway stations.
Auckland Council has signed over a $40 million, 125-year lease to a Malaysian developer which will see construction take place over the City Rail Link's underground Aotea Station set to open in 2024.
The plans include commercial and retail space, 60 apartments and a public plaza. The developer, Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB), will begin construction of the nearly half-billion dollar building after the completion of the station in 2024, and is expected to take about three years.

Almost to the day, we were celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the New Zealand School of Food and Wine with special wine tastings, cooking classes, forage and gastronomic dinner for over 75 guests + our students. Many of our Christchurch team, including Lois, Philippe and Victoria had come up for the weekend. My mother-in-law, June Hay had also joined us from her retirement home in Christchurch. By Sunday 15 March, I was getting pretty nervous about Covid-19 and rather than have June stay in the North Island for a holiday, she returned home the next day. A few days later June's rest home went into lockdown and I counted the 14 days to see if we too had a NZSFW Covid Cluster. Fortunately not! See below some photos as we recalled the 10th Anniversary of the Christchurch Earthquakes.

The Government intends to dole out the Covid-19 vaccine to about half of New Zealand by the end of June, and the elderly and people with pre-existing conditions are “priority populations” to receive early access.
A long-awaited schedule for the Pfizer vaccine roll-out was published by Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins on Wednesday, and showed the country carved into four groups.
“This is a balanced plan that prioritises reducing the chance of future outbreaks while protecting our elders, those with underlying health conditions and those who live in locations where we know outbreaks have occurred,” Hipkins said in a statement.
The first group to receive the vaccine, border workers and their families, would be completed by the end of March.
The second, 480,000 frontline healthcare workers and people living in “high-risk settings” has already begun and would continue until May.
The 234,000 people living in these “high-risk settings” include older people and people with pre-existing health conditions in the Counties Manukau District Health Board (DHB) area, people in residential aged-care facilities, and older people living in a family environment that poses a similar risk to aged-care homes.
“Anyone who lives in the Counties Manukau DHB area who is 65 and older or who has an underlying health condition is also in Group 2. This recognises that there are many border operations and MIQ facilities and their workforces based in this area,” Hipkins said.
The third round of the roll-outs would be for all other people aged 75 years old, then 65 years old, then people with pre-existing health conditions which include heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, respiratory conditions, kidney disease, and cancer.
The Government hopes to begin vaccinating this group – 1.7 million people in total – in May.
The fourth group is the remainder of the population, 2 million people who will start receiving the vaccine from July.

A flight attendant who visited an Auckland supermarket has tested positive for Covid-19.
Fourteen other air crew are being contacted and asked to isolate and re-test, the Ministry of Health said.
It is not ruling out local transmission of the virus in Auckland, but says the risk to the public is low.
The woman who tested positive has been moved to Jet Park quarantine facility.
“The Public Health initial assessment is there is low risk to the public due to Auckland being at Alert Level 3 for the period in which this case was back in New Zealand and were either in isolation or at home for most of that time,” the ministry said in a Sunday evening release.
“There is currently one location of interest – the Auckland Airport Countdown on March 3 between 12.07pm and 1.22pm.”
“Anyone who was at the store at this time is asked to monitor their health for the next 10 days (until March 17)."
Contact tracers are also in the process of tracking down people who were at an unnamed clinic at the same time as the woman during a health appointment on an unspecified date.
“All those attending the same clinic at the same time are being identified and will be contacted and provided specific health advice.”
Genome sequencing results are expected on Tuesday.
The woman's three household family members were tested on Sunday, and they are all negative, the ministry said.
She returned to New Zealand from Japan on February 28, and returned a negative Covid-19 result then, the Health Ministry said.
She returned a subsequent positive test result on Sunday after a swab taken on Saturday as part of routine surveillance testing, the Ministry said.
People who were at the Auckland Airport Countdown on Wednesday between 12.07pm and 1.22pm are not being asked to isolate.
“If they feel unwell or develop symptoms, they should contact Healthline on 0800 358 5454, and get tested and stay at home until a negative test result is received.”
“Testing is available at six community testing centres (CTCs) throughout Auckland as well as at general practices and urgent care clinics.”
“There is currently good capacity in the testing system, and the CTCs in Otara (South Auckland) and Wiri (West Auckland) have additional staff available to meet any increase in demand.”
Testing locations are available on the Auckland Regional Public Health Service website.
The ministry said it would provide a further update on Monday.
