Christchurch authorities have come up with a plan to stop boy racers revving engines and racing off the line: Don't let them hit red lights.

Council will trial phasing the traffic lights on Bealey Ave so traffic gets a clear run down the length of the street, to reduce noise from things like stopping and accelerating, revving and burn-outs.

Do you think this will stop boy racers from revving loudly? Tell us in the comments below (please write NFP if you don't want your comments published).

After having to boil their water for nearly a year, a rural community in North Canterbury finally has a new bore and clean water.

The Oxford Rural Number 1 water scheme – supplying homes around Thongcaster, Woodstock and Domain roads near Oxford – previously took water from the Waimakariri River. The district council put affected residents on a boil water notice after E coli was found in the water supply in January.

The water is now sourced from a 105 metre-deep well in McPhedrons Rd, which yields enough clean water to supply the current scheme and meet predicted growth over the next 50 years.

Resident Erica Willoughby says the community is thrilled to have their water back.

"It has been a long time of having to buy drinking water and using water collected from a rain water tank for showers, but now the water coming out of the tap is great."

REALLY URGENT - if you want to include step-children or whangai, or if you have repartnered or separated, or (males) if there could be other children you don't know about or don't want to know about, or if you don't have children and don't want your distant relatives to be the beneficiaries if you and your partner are both killed in the same tragic accident....

Answer the questions, download the Word document, print it, and sign it in front of two adults who are not beneficiaries in the will. (Confession time - we are selling it, but we didn't write it. We've tried it out and it's okay although there are bits we would tweak if we were writing it from scratch.)

Cataloni is Environment Canterbury's (ECan) new northern zone delivery lead, aiming to find the most efficient way of managing water across the top of the region.

His role is part of a pilot project to determine whether the Waimakariri, Hurunui and Kaikōura districts should be combined into one zone when it comes to water management.

Canterbury zone committees will remain in their current form, but the proposal will have them operate alongside three larger zones covering the northern, central and southern parts of the region.

New Zealand is preparing for a future free trade agreement with the United Kingdom. We’re asking for New Zealanders’ views now, so we can take them into account right from the start of the process.

Key benefits we will be looking for include removing tariffs and other barriers that restrict the flow of goods and services between our countries, and closer cooperation on progressive trade issues, including environmental protections.

To make your voice heard, just answer our quick poll question and share your thoughts.
