Nitrate levels have significantly reduced at a North Canterbury stream less than two months into a pilot project to improve its water quality.

The Institute of Environmental and Scientific Research (ESR)-led denitrification wall trial at Silverstream Reserve, near Kaiapoi, has resulted in nitrate levels in groundwater dropping from 7.1mg/l to 0.5 mg/l.

The 25 metre-long wall, installed in November, is a world first, having never been tested in a fast-flowing gravel aquifer system before.

The Ashley Rakahuri Rivercare Group (ARRG) was up against seven other finalists for the Australasian Wildlife Management Society (AWMS) annual award for practical wildlife management.

The group's win recognised the practical work it did to protect endemic braided river birds in the Ashley-Rakahuri River, including the wrybill, black-fronted tern, black-billed gull and the banded dotterel, all of which nest on clean shingle banks and islands in the river.

If you already have children, you need a new will. Otherwise, all your possessions (including furniture, vehicles, heirlooms, animals, etc, except business items) and the first $155,000 of your money/land/investments (plus 1/3 of the rest) will automatically go to your new spouse. There may also be unexpected issues about who is a 'child'. Just make a will (please). You can do it here and now. We've changed our system to include free review of the signed will to confirm it is legally valid. autom.io...

Waimakariri residents are being warned to prepare for the fire season, with hot, dry days posing an increased fire risk over the summer months.

Waimakariri District Council and Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) are urging residents to be aware of fire dangers, in spite of recent rain, as conditions can change rapidly.

Fenz principal rural fire officer Bruce Janes said it was very likely there would be fires in the district over the summer period, as seen in previous years.

"Don't be fooled by all the rain and cooler temperatures. All that moisture means lots of growth [and], when summer does decide to show, it will rapidly dry off and become a lot of available fuel for any wild fire that may come along," he said.

"When you're working on your property or in the garden, keep machinery well maintained to reduce potential sparks, and mow lawns in cooler conditions.

"You should also assess the risk of fire to your property and get rid of any shrubs, long grass or trees near your home which could burn easily. Having an escape plan for your family and pets is also vital."

The warning comes as scientists and academics caution that the 2017 Port Hills fires "could become the norm that New Zealand fire agencies have to deal with", and criticise agencies for paying "lip service to lessons learned".

The Fenz website (www.fireandemergency.nz) has important information about how to reduce fire risk.

Long grass or any other fire hazard can be reported to Fenz online at www.fireandemergency.nz....

There are 2 black..however the new one is opened and there is also one which was in my printer..sadly I do not know which is which !
I can not guarantee these BLACK inks as they have been opened.

There is also a complete sealed set of 6x4 inch photo papers. Also some loose 6x4 papers.

Reason for selling...my printer refused to print after I had been away for 2 months...being a novice I thought new ink would solve the problem..but alas..not so.
I bought a new cheap printer and these inks are not compatible to it.

These cost me $149.00.docket still attached.
I wish to sell for $60.00 ONO

Negotiable
