Hi neighbours,

Christmas is supposed to be the jolliest time of year - full of whimsical family reunions, selfless gift-giving and Masterchef-worthy feasts.

But sometimes this just isn't captured on camera. We're after those amazingly awkward Christmas moments that have been captured on film.

Maybe it was the time you went to visit Santa and your little one didn't want a bar of it. Maybe it was a self-timed family shot that went horribly awry. Or a Christmas meal that was more a festive fail.

Whatever the not-so-merry moment, we want to see it! Share your pictures and a little bit about them with us in Stuff Nation. We look forward to seeing them! Here's the link to contribute.

Last Friday Mayor John Leggett joined the Prime Minister, officials, iwi representatives, guests and rail workers on the first passenger service between Picton and Kaikoura since the November 2016 earthquake.

Friday’s commemorative train left Picton, stopping in Blenheim to pick up Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and other guests. The train was welcomed into Kaikoura with cheers and applause from locals.

In Kaikoura, the Prime Minister announced an additional $40m in funding for the service, adding a new 63-seat carriage and a premium luxury carriage. The new funding allows the service to become year-round and to upgrade its reservation system. The full service resumes from Saturday 1 December.

A complex low system covers the North Island and Tasman Sea, directing a moist easterly flow across central New Zealand. This flow is expected to tend more southerly on Wednesday, easing the rain about central areas.

Periods of heavy rain are expected about Wairarapa, the Tararua District, Marlborough including the Sounds and the northwestern ranges of Nelson, and a heavy rain Warning is in force for these areas.

Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous. People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case other areas are added. Keep updated here
