🐀TIPS & TRICKS FOR USING RODENT BAIT STATIONS🐀
The benefit of using rodent bait stations are that they exclude non-target animals & children, provide an enclosed space where rodents feel comfortable to feed on bait and protect bait from moisture & dust.
🐀Wear clean gloves when handling bait stations (and baits) – this prevents human odours deterring rodents.
🐀Place bait stations against walls/fences, under cover of vegetation or disguised by placing rocks etc. on & around the stations – there is evidence that rodents can become shy of station shapes.
🐀Consider the rodent species and where they are likely to be - roof rats are arboreal (tree climbers) & spend most of their time off the ground, so fix stations at height such as in roof spaces and even up trees.
🐀Ensure stations are on a firm base – stations that rock or move when rodents enter are likely to discourage them from entering; maybe fix stations in place with a bracket or screws.
🐀Clean stations at least annually – brush out & rinse thoroughly with clean water.
🐀Regularly check bait – if all the bait has been taken double the amount of bait placed in the station.
🐀Pre-bait – where there is other food readily available to rodents & it can’t be removed, pre-bait stations with the same food for 1-2 weeks or until rodents are feeding on the pre-feed, then switch to the toxic rodent bait.
🐀Avoid moving stations – don’t move stations to other locations unless there is known rodent activity & bait has not been taken from the station for at least 1 month.
Prefer not to Do It Yourself - PESTWORX can set up & manage a Rodent Control Programme for you.

The options for doing so are endless! Being kind doesn’t have to cost a thing, after all a smile is free. For those who want to go the extra mile, here’s some other ideas: Buy extra kai at the grocery store to donate to a food pantry, help someone with a broken down car or flat tire, bring treats into work for colleagues, send an encouraging text to someone who needs it, let a car into the traffic ahead of you, take a gift over to new neighbours and introduce yourself, write positive messages in chalk on sidewalks around your neighbourhood, or surprise loved ones with a visit.
This month also coincides with World Humanitarian Day on August 19th and Random Acts of Kindness Day (New Zealand) which is on September 1st.
Let us know how you’re spreading kindness in your community by tagging us in your posts + using the following hashtag so we can see what you get up to:
