Last year's public tree left a lot to be desired.
But this year's is bound to look better thanks to local weaver Anna Hayes.
Hayes, from the newly opened Maori Weaving Rotorua, has woven 16 metres of harakeke rope and 30 muka ties, from which locally made wooden decorations will hang.
Hayes learnt the craft in Rotorua and said she was pleased to be contributing towards the tree.
The tree will be fully decked out and looking bright and festive this year and a small ceremony will be held under the tree at 7pm on Thursday, December 1 to mark the tree lights being switched on.

Our Stream Care Team would like to hear from you if you are interested in helping to carry out some work at the Stream. It is a truly beautiful location, and a real taonga/treasure for all to enjoy.
Our team are small, and they need help maintaining this special place for all to enjoy, today and into the future. It is not hard work, sometimes planting, or raking the pathways clear of debris. If you can give an hour or two per week please let me know. I know that Ann, John and team would really appreciate some new friends.
