As I write this the training craft from Nelson Flying School based out of Motueka has been doing loops since 8.45. These seem to include stall training which is particularly loud. I read that this has been an ongoing issue for residents in Motueka who have protested for several years. The school says they have changed flight paths to avoid populated areas. The council claim there's nothing they can do as noise pollution does not apply to aircraft.
I understand that the school is necessary and is a valuable asset to the area but surely an activity that creates so much noise needs to be undertaken away from heavily populated areas. This is even more relevant when you consider that theses are trailing flights and there's always the possibility of an accident.
I live in Ruby Bay and it appears that every time I sit out in the garden I have to endure this noise and it even permeates our home. Is it just me being over sensitive or are others noticing an increased intrusion from the planes?
