The additional fire on the Island has meant emergency services have had to split their resources away from Eves Valley and environs, where every resource is desperately needed.
As there is only one exit from Rabbit Island and the vegetation is very flammable when dry this decision appears to have been irresponsible.

Residents near a large uncontrolled fire in the Tasman district should be prepared to evacuate their homes.
Tasman District Council communications advisor Chris Choat said the fire was moving "reasonably quickly" and currently covered about 20 hectares.

Tasman District Council communications advisor Chris Choat said the fire was moving "reasonably quickly" and currently covered about 20 hectares.
He has advised anyone living in Teapot Valley or Eves Valley to ready themselves for evacuation, but stressed that it was a precaution at this stage.
Roads in the area have been closed including, Pigeon Valley Rd from Pigeon Valley South Branch Rd, and Dovedale Rd from Brandy Creek Rd. Read more here
