The Guilty (Danish: Den skyldige) is a 2018 Danish thriller film co-written and directed by Gustav Möller. It was screened in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. The film was distributed in the U.S. by Magnolia Pictures. It was selected as the Danish submission for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards, making the December shortlist An American remake will star Jake Gyllenhaal
Asger Holm, a Copenhagen police officer awaiting a hearing for shooting and killing a 19-year-old man, is assigned to answer emergency calls at the Emergency East desk. On the evening before the hearing, he receives a call from a woman named Iben Østergård, who does not say she has an emergency and acts as if she is talking to a child. Initially about to hang up, Asger guesses the distressed Iben is not alone and asks her yes and no questions; she discreetly reveals she has been abducted but explicitly mentions a white van. Tracing the call by the nearest cellphone tower, Asger calls the North Zealand station to tell them to look for a white van driving north. The North Zealand dispatcher tells him this is not enough information and a licence plate number and specific location are required. Asger talks to the North Zealand patrol car, who pull over a light-coloured van but let it go when no woman is found inside.

Another comment to this movie: Yesterday Peter and I were talking to the owner of the Gecko theatre in Motueka, and when he asked us what was our next movie, and we told him THE GUILTY, he was so impressed , and told us it was the best thriller movie he’d seen, and had him glued to the screen from start to finish, we were really pleased to have another of our friends’ recommendations verified, and hope we get a huge crowd to see what may be the best movie we ever show at the Packhorse Cinema.

Doors open at 6:15pm, the movie starts at 6:30pm. Enjoy a drink or some food before or after opposite the hall at the Sprig & Fern.
Bring your own chair, nibbles and drinks.
Entry is 12 dollars a head.

But he has also been overwhelmed by offers of support, including a project to build him a more secure stand.

What design aspects does a roadside fruit stall require these days? Would you spare some lemons to Dan's cause if you knew the stall was theft-proof?

All it takes is a kind gesture to change someone’s day. From paying it forward in line at a cafe to giving flowers to a friend ‘just because’ - this month we’re encouraging our members and supporters to make New Zealand a better place one random act of kindness at a time.

The options for doing so are endless! Being kind doesn’t have to cost a thing, after all a smile is free. For those who want to go the extra mile, here’s some other ideas: Buy extra kai at the grocery store to donate to a food pantry, help someone with a broken down car or flat tire, bring treats into work for colleagues, send an encouraging text to someone who needs it, let a car into the traffic ahead of you, take a gift over to new neighbours and introduce yourself, write positive messages in chalk on sidewalks around your neighbourhood, or surprise loved ones with a visit.

This month also coincides with World Humanitarian Day on August 19th and Random Acts of Kindness Day (New Zealand) which is on September 1st.

Let us know how you’re spreading kindness in your community by tagging us in your posts + using the following hashtag so we can see what you get up to:
