This time, we plan to show the movie "Secondhand Lions" on Sunday, 18th September at 6.30 pm in the Mapua Community Hall. Bring your own chair and drinks etc if you wish.
Some of us go to the Sprig & Fern for a meal at around 5pm, and there will be a table reserved for any who would like to join us.
We have some excellent movies planned for the rest of the cold season, So, we look forward to seeing you there.
All income from this event will go towards the Mapua Community Hall!
Cheers,
Reinhard & Angelika
The movie mogul says:
"Secondhand Lions " is one of those sleeper movies you sometimes hear about. Due to the wonderful script, direction and acting by all the principals, this one unfolds like a rose in bloom. Before you know it, the movie has you totally in its grasp and the characters become three dimensional as their battles battles become yours as well. The plot is simple: A teenage boy is dumped on his crusty great-uncles by his scheming mother who wants the kid to find where the uncles may have hidden their reputably stolen fortune. The uncles, played by Michael Caine and Robert Duvall, work well together as brothers who are slow to warm up to their rather precious nephew. Eventually the layers begin to peel away as the boy learns about the earlier thrilling adventures of the uncles and begins to see them as potential role models.
But then, are their stories true? Should the boy return to his mother? Should the uncles fight to keep him around? This movie made us lough and cry. It touches on every aspect of growing old. It addresses the right way to live and the wrong way. A perfect movie for MAPUANS.

Originating in the southern part of India, Dosa is a tasty gluten-free rice pancake that’s commonly eaten for breakfast. It gives the ideal kickstart to your day as it has the right amount of carbs and protein, minus saturated fats and sugars.
The thin batter-based pancake is made from a fermented batter predominantly consisting of lentils and rice. Its main ingredients are rice and black gram ground together in a fine, smooth batter with a dash of salt, then fermented. This makes Dosa a great option for those amongst us who are on a gluten-free diet!
Tutor Antonia was born and raised in Southern India. She will be teaching you how to make the classic Dosa from that region and then discuss some variations.

Tasman District Council’s local elections (held every three years) are fast approaching. Nominations closed on August 12th and Election Day takes place on OCTOBER 8th.
The Nelson Tasman Climate Forum and Tasman Environmental Trust are hosting a series of zoom sessions where we will be inviting both mayoral and council electoral candidates from each Tasman ward to answer questions about the role they intend to play in elevating the climate conversation and advocating for climate conscious policies.
The recent weather events have brought home how important it is to have representatives. at the local government level who understand the causes of climate change, and its effects. Drawing on a set of pre prepared questions elicited from The Forum, our moderator will challenge each of the candidates on their climate credentials and aspirations.
Our hope is that these sessions will give voters a useful overview of their options while highlighting to the candidates that there is a public expectation that climate change should be at the forefront of their thinking and their actions.
If you are interested in climate change mitigation at the local Governance level, and want to hear from the candidates on this subject, this event is for you.
Registrations are ESSENTIAL and can be made through THE LINK BELOW. Specific link for each venue. Click on the "READ MORE" which will take you to the NTCF webpage, scroll down where you will find each venue with a register button.

All sessions are from 7-8.30pm
Mayoral Session: 16 Sept
Council Sessions:

17 Sept Moutere – Waimea
19 Sept Lakes-Murchison
