Canterbury has been named the fifth most welcoming region in the world in the Booking.com Traveller Review Awards, while Oamaru, Hokitika and Invercargill have been named the most welcoming towns in NZ. They were followed by Cambridge, Picton, Lake Tekapo, Kerikeri, Palmerston North, Paihia and Twizel.
We'd be really keen to hear your thoughts on this based on your own travels around New Zealand. Do you think Canterbury is NZ's most welcoming region? And are these our most welcoming towns?
Where in NZ have you been made to feel particularly welcome on your travels?
As usual, please put 'NFP' in your comment if you don't want it to be included in an article. Cheers.

It might seem unlikely that eating a few slices of poppy seed cake or a muffin with a poppy seed topping could be enough to make a non-drug user get red flagged in a drug test.
But in fact it’s well documented that eating poppy seeds can be enough to trigger a positive reading for the opiate morphine.
Before they’re used as an ingredient in baking, the seeds are cleaned and processed but are still likely to contain traces of opiate residue. It’s not a high enough concentration for someone to feel any morphine-like effects, but it can be enough to cause a positive result on a sensitive test.

The fire danger has now reached the ‘Extreme’ level, and residents are being urged not to enter the closed areas and use only the Lower Farm Track, Mapp Track, the town boundary or Taylor River Reserve tracks.
Will you adhere to the advice, or will you disregard closure signs and walk the hills anyway?
Do you think the closures are unnecessary?
What alternative walks will you take?
