A North Canterbury charity that rescues and re-homes unwanted chickens has been ransacked by vandals, leaving at least six hens badly hurt.
An unknown person entered the North Canterbury Chicken Rescue site in West Eyreton on Tuesday, letting around 400 chickens loose by opening gates and pens.

An unknown person entered the North Canterbury Chicken Rescue site in West Eyreton on Tuesday, letting around 400 chickens loose by opening gates and pens.
Founder Amanda Gill said the person also pulled more than half of the water feeders off their pipes, leaving the animals without water on a day when temperatures reached 30 degrees Celsius.

I have a lot of jars with metal lids that would be good for bottling etc to give away. They were all washed and put through a dishwasher but have been sitting in the garage so are dusty on the outside now so will need cleaning again. Pick up will be in Mandeville

Recalled items include Pestell's Champagne Ham, Cooked Ham on the Bone, Boneless Ham and Boneless Ham pieces. The products are available to purchase across the South Island at major food outlets Pak'n Save, New World and Four Square.
The recall affects the following batches:
- Pestell's whole Ham products with a use by date up to and including 15.01.21.
- Pestell's Sliced Ham Off the Bone vacuum packs with a use by date up to and including 29.12.20, this appears on the product as 29/DEC/20.
- Pestell’s Sliced Ham served over the counter at delicatessens in Pak’n Save, New World and Four Square supermarkets in the South Island with a best before date up to and including 7.12.20.
Further information:
- No Countdown stores sold these products.
- The products should not consumed unless the product is cooked through thoroughly. Alternatively, affected customers should return their product for a full refund.
